The other day, I was working outside and looked up and saw chatty Cathy, my favorite hen walking down the driveway. She always finds a way to escape the run and I always catch her and put her back over the fence but I guess today she’s decided to run away. She’s leaving home, all that’s missing is her packed bags. I made a mistake a few months ago by allowing the chickens to free range, forgetting what kind of damage they can do in my flowerbeds. Once the beds were cleaned out and mulch was spread, I would come out side and find mulch all in the grass so the chickens had to go back into the run and stay there. Needless to say, this little girl was not happy. Several of them were not happy I found that out when they quit laying their eggs and throwing their feed everywhere. Who knew chickens could be so spiteful!

A little over a month ago we decided to cut down these 40+ year old Rhodos. At one time they were stunning but over the years they got old just like us and lost their appeal. The blooms literally killed my pond. Every spring I spent hours with a net trying to catch the blooms before they hit the water. Bob cut them down and hauled them away but we realized why we let them go for so long was to hide this hideous wall. As with all projects we start, the dominoes begin falling and we end up with a BIG project. The wall HAD to be covered, no way was I looking at that everyday. SOOO we had a great guy come and put up new vinyl siding. I looked at it and looked at it and it was ALOT of white. It needed something to break up all that white (and the second domino falls). Up went the new trellis with 6x6 posts 12' tall that required a Hercules to pick them up (Bob is 78 and isn't Hercules). After spending the better part of two weeks creating the arbor/trellis and painting it, he says when it rains the mud will splash up onto the new siding (the next domino falls). A gutter company shows up and installs a new gutter. Now the pond isn't looking too great-I need a backhoe to take out all the sludge because we haven't cleaned it in a while. We got the great idea to have it professionally cleaned and what a treat that was. The company was amazing and had it done in one day. Now I keep looking at that trellis and knowing it needs "STUFF" so off Bob goes to the stone store for a pallet of field stone. Thank goodness Heather was here so help unload 2500 lbs of stone and place stone into tiered beds. The final domino fell with the stone and now happily this project is done!!! Roses are planted to climb up that trellis (I'm hoping I see blooms before my 80th birthday) and beautiful New Guinea Impatients to add a splash of color to the baby roses. End of story!

Starting the morning off with my weeding buddy. We are overrun with frogs this year. I mean, they are literally everywhere I have of eggs from the pond so we don’t get any tadpoles, but it’s hard to keep up with them. Have a great day. It’s gonna be beautiful.

I couldn’t resist sharing this beautiful bush blooming and it is not Forsythia, . It’s winter Jasmine. Has no smell, but it’s so pretty especially when I look around my garden and see snow laying on the ground. The post is leaning a little crooked these days because a couple years ago, it rotted off at the bottom and this bush is the only thing holding that post up, but like I said, I couldn’t resist sharing this. It just makes me happy looking at it. Have a great day. Hopefully the weather will turn warm again soon.
