"You just need some new deckin' boards and this thing will be fine," is what one contractor told this couple when getting estimates to get the rotting deck up to code. We took a look and quickly discovered it was going to take more than some decking boards. The joists were soft and spongy, the center beam was separating from the supporting post, and the old posts were so rotten at the bottom that it only took a gentle shove to get them out. Some adjustments had to be made to the deck size due to the original posts being set in 3' x 3' holes filled with to the brim with concrete, but with a sledge hammer, rotary hammer drill, and some persistence, we got it close. Now, these kind folks have a sturdy, shaded deck that can be enjoyed for years. Looks like we've earned another satisfied customer.
