Master bathroom, just finished in Bethesda, MD.

The ceiling follows the roofline here, so everything below it stays low and quiet: a natural oak double vanity on a quartz top, a long black-framed mirror, and a floor-to-ceiling linen cabinet that takes the clutter off the counter. The octagonal window was already in the gable. The room got rebuilt around it.

The shower is frameless glass, tiled full height in a soft cream vertical stack with a recessed niche and a pebble mosaic floor. The shower set is oil-rubbed bronze; the faucets, mirror and hardware are matte black. Wood-look tile runs the length of the floor.

Her w**e cellar wasn't getting opened. Now it's a sauna, and it gets used every week.

We stripped the room back, built the sauna enclosure, and wrapped the changing area in a
slatted wood wall with built-in cabinetry either side. The whole build, start to finish,

Basements are full of rooms like this one — a w**e cellar, a storage nook, a bonus space
that never found a purpose. They make better saunas than people expect.

Home sauna, finished this month in Falls Church, VA.

A two-tier western red cedar sauna with LED cove lighting behind the backrest, a full-glass door, and a Harvia Spirit 80 heater with an open stone basket, bucket and ladle alongside. Cedar was the call for the benching and the walls: it stays cool enough to sit on at temperature, and it's what gives the room its smell.

Just outside the door we built a changing nook, so the sauna isn't something you step into straight off a hallway — a built-in bench with a cushioned seat, drawer storage underneath, floating shelves for rolled towels, hooks and a clock.

Same square footage as the space it replaced. Completely different way to end a day.

Primary suite remodel in Fairfax, VA — bathroom and walk-in closet, done as one project.

The bath: large-format marble-look porcelain floor to ceiling, a frameless sliding glass shower over a linear drain, rain head and handheld on a slide bar, corner niche shelving, and a long quartz vanity over soft periwinkle shaker cabinetry. Matte black hardware throughout, a black-framed mirror, a four-light clear-glass sconce bar, and a floor-to-ceiling linen tower so the counter stays clear.

The closet: custom pale-oak built-ins — a sixteen-drawer bank, double-hang rods, adjustable shelving, a clerestory window for daylight, and refinished oak floors underfoot.

Same footprint as before. The whole difference is in how it's laid out.
