A quick pest control tip from the field 👇

Just because a product has ants on the label doesn't mean it's the best choice for ant control.

Many over-the-counter insecticides contain active ingredients ending in "-thrin" (pyrethroids). While these products can kill the ants you see, they can also cause certain ant species to "bud" or split their colonies into multiple nests. Instead of solving the problem, you may end up with even more ants in different areas of your property.

On the other hand, if you're dealing with slugs, Sluggo is a product we often recommend. It's effective, easy to use, and can be a safer option around pets and wildlife when used according to the label directions.

The biggest takeaway? The right product depends on the pest. Using the wrong treatment can sometimes make the problem worse.

The aftermath of a bald-faced hornet nest removal. 👀

These insects are incredible builders, creating large, paper-like nests that can house hundreds of hornets at a time. Their engineering skills are impressive, but having one too close to your home can quickly become a safety concern.

Before he left, Jack was a big part of the Natura team and always willing to jump in wherever he was needed. From helping customers to putting his pest control knowledge to work in the field, he made a lasting impact on our team.

Think you have mice? Maybe not. 🦇

We recently inspected a customer's home after signs of animal activity were discovered. At first glance, the droppings looked similar to what you might expect from rodents, but there was one important clue.

Bat droppings are often twisted and irregular in shape, while mouse droppings tend to be smoother and more uniform.

Think you've found an odorous house ant? Not so fast. 🐜

Jake was inspecting an ant trail running through a garden when something didn't add up. The ants looked similar to odorous house ants, but they didn't give off the distinct smell those ants are known for.

The giveaway came when he picked one up. Instead of running away, it raised its abdomen over its head, a signature defensive posture of an acrobat ant.

Fun fact: Acrobat ants are actually the ants featured on the side of Natura's trucks!

Correct identification is one of the most important parts of effective pest control. Two ants may look similar, but they can behave very differently and require different treatment approaches.
