They’re called attenuator (or crash) trucks, and they’re one of the most important pieces of safety equipment on the job.

These trucks are designed to absorb the impact of a crash, helping protect our crews who are working just ahead. While we hope they’re never needed, they play a critical role in keeping our employees safe every day.

As summer temperatures rise, many of our crews shift to working at night to help reduce heat exposure and provide a safer working environment.

If you see our trucks, equipment, or crews after dark, please slow down, stay alert, and give them plenty of room to work. Every cone, barrel, and flashing light represents someone working to make our roads safer and someone who wants to make it home to their family at the end of the shift.

Today’s SEE STOP DO Day safety meeting at the Johnson Shop featured a special guest speaker: Cole Ritchey with Time Striping. Cole shared his powerful personal story about being struck while working on a highway construction project early one morning. He spoke candidly about the incident, the severity of his injuries, and the long road to recovery before he was able to return to work. Beyond the physical challenges, Cole highlighted the lasting impact the incident had on his life, both professionally and personally.

His testimony served as a strong reminder of the real risks associated with our work and reinforced the importance of staying alert, following proper safety procedures, and looking out for one another on every job. Thank you for joining us this morning, Cole! 🙏💪
