🍂 Falling Leaves, Healthy Lawns!

October in Maine means cooler temperatures, colorful foliage, and plenty of leaves covering your lawn!

While those autumn leaves make for beautiful scenery, letting them pile up can cause trouble for your turf.

🍁 Here's a fall lawn care tip: Instead of bagging every leaf, use your mower's mulching blades to chop them into smaller pieces. A light layer of finely mulched leaves can return valuable organic matter to the soil as it decomposes.

Just be sure to avoid thick layers of leaves that block sunlight, trap moisture, and smother the grass underneath.

And remember, your lawn isn't done growing just because the temperatures are dropping! Keep up with mowing and leaf management as long as your grass continues to grow.

A little attention now goes a long way toward a healthier lawn next spring! 🌱

🌳 Healthy trees and shrubs start below the surface.

Compacted soil, limited root space, competition from turf, and nutrient deficiencies can make it harder for landscape plants to thrive. Deep root fertilization delivers nutrients directly into the root zone to support healthy roots, stronger growth, and overall plant vigor.

Fall is a great time to think about the health of your trees and shrubs as they prepare for another Maine winter.

🌱 Learn more about deep root fertilization and how it can support your landscape in our latest blog!

🌿 Not everything green is something you want growing!

Our team recently treated Japanese knotw**d (Fallopia japonica), an aggressive invasive plant that can quickly take over an area and crowd out desirable vegetation.

These photos are a great example of just how problematic it can become. You can actually see a hydrangea underneath the knotw**d that has been completely overwhelmed and will likely not survive.

You’ll also notice the tarp protecting the edge of the lawn during treatment. When dealing with invasive plants like Japanese knotw**d, careful, targeted treatment is important to control the unwanted vegetation while protecting the surrounding turf and desirable plants as much as possible.

Japanese knotw**d is persistent, spreads aggressively, and often requires a strategic management approach rather than a one-and-done treatment.

What is your lawn trying to tell you? 🌱

If your grass struggles despite regular fertilization and good lawn care practices, the answer could be hiding in the soil. Your lawn’s pH can affect nutrient availability, soil health, and even how quickly thatch accumulates.

Our latest blog explains why checking your lawn’s pH matters, what acidic soil can mean for your turf, and how corrective lime applications can help create better growing conditions.
