Hey, Pest-Free Living community! 👋 We’re back this week after a little break and ready to dive into some important pest control info. As we all know, winter weather can be a rollercoaster, and we’re currently in the middle of a cold snap, but as the temperatures warm up toward the end of the month, pests will be waking up soon enough! 🐜
❄️ Winter Chill and What It Means for Pests ❄️
While we’re dealing with some chilly weather now, pests haven’t just disappeared for the season. Here’s how the cold snap can still affect pest activity:
🦠 Rodents: These little guys are looking for warmth and shelter. If you’ve noticed scratching noises or signs of droppings in the attic, it’s a good idea to inspect for possible entry points and seal them up.
🐜 Ants: Some ant species slow down during winter, but many are still in hibernation. Warm spells can cause them to wake up and start foraging again—watch out for early spring activity!
🦟 Mosquitoes: Even though mosquitoes aren’t flying around right now, their larvae can survive in stagnant water. As soon as the thaw happens, we’ll likely see them return with a vengeance.
🐾 Fleas: These tiny but pesky critters are resilient. Fleas can survive in your home during the winter, hiding in your pet’s fur or in warm cracks and crevices. As the ground begins to thaw out and outdoor temperatures rise, fleas will become more active, which can lead to fleas jumping from pets to humans in search of a meal. Be sure to keep your pets protected and monitor your home for signs of fleas.
🔥 Looking ahead to the end of the month, warmer weather will bring more pest activity, which is why it's so important to stay ahead of the curve. Make sure to check for entry points, remove standing water, and get your home pest-ready for the season change.
