This home that we insulated had 1.9 A.C.H (air changes per hour). That means that the HVAC unit only has to run about 2 times per hour to maintain the temperature of the home.

Fiberglass insulated homes are generally 4.5 TO 6 A.C.H.

Sprayed cellulose is, at most, 2x cheaper than closed cell spray foam. Sprayed cellulose is also better at sound Attenuation, fire retardation, resisting bugs and rodents, and has about the same resistance to air infiltration.

Fiberglass insulation does not even come close in any of the performance categories listed above. Fiberglass is like a filter made of tiny glass particles. It let's the air pass right through it along with the glass particles being spread through the home.

Anyone who has ever picked up a piece of fiberglass insulation has noticed the glass dust particles that are instantly air born as it is handled, as well as how it irritates the skin.

When insulating with closed cell foam, the installer either over fills the cavity and shaves it down, or underfills the cavity leaving dead air space that can sweat, allow fire to pass through, and let rodents pass through. When over filing, there is a lot of waste that the customer needs to pay for.

Cellulose spray insulation is installed so that it always completely fills the wall cavity out to the edge of the wall and makes contact with the drywall. Sprayed cellulose does not settle, because of the density in which it is installed, it does not have allowance for settling.

The difference in cost between fiberglass to sprayed cellulose is quickly recovered in energy savings.

In the picture on the left, that is not mold on the fiberglass. It's money residue. It's dirty from air leaking right through the walls. Fiberglass acts like a filter and let's the conditioned air pass right through it, Taking your money with it, and leaving the dirty air dust behind.

In the second picture, that is premium cellulose wall spray. You will never see this product dirty because it resists air leakage. A cellulose home is 2.5 - 3 times more efficient than fiberglass for close to the same price. It is a class A fire rating, resists mold, vermin, insects, sound, and air infiltration.

The third picture is injected foam from one of the leading foam companies. That picture speaks volumes and should answer a lot of questions about how is installed and how you can tell if the walls were filed. Also, what is foam made from? Let's just say it's toxic and when it catches fire, it burns, and it let's of a poisonous gas.

You can take a thermal camera and look at any wall of a home and see how well it's insulated. And you can have a blower door test done to see how well it performs. (Or just look at your energy costs)

In existing homes, we use 3.2 psi (pounds per square inch) of air pressure which forces the cellulose into all the gaps and cracks similar to the way its done in new construction.
