The 2003 wildfire season changed my life and shaped the reason I started Acre Attack.
Growing up on a farm in Valley Center, California, I experienced firsthand how devastating wildfires can be. As the son of a firefighter, I was raised to understand the importance of fire prevention, preparedness, and protecting lives and property. Those lessons became even more meaningful during one of California's most destructive fire seasons.
The Paradise Fire came dangerously close to our home, while the Cedar Fire was burning communities to the south. It was the Paradise Fire that had the greatest impact on our family and our community.
Our property was surrounded by heavy brush and dry vegetation, so my family always took fire prevention seriously. We consistently maintained defensible space, cleared brush, and kept at least 50 to 100 feet of clearance around our home and structures. Those firebreaks weren't just another chore, they were our first line of defense.
When the Paradise Fire swept through in October 2003, it turned the landscape into a moonscape covered in ash. Despite the destruction all around us, our farm remained untouched because of the time and effort we invested in fire prevention. Sadly, many of our neighbors were not as fortunate. Some lost their homes, their belongings, and everything they had worked so hard to build.
Watching that devastation firsthand left a lasting impact on me. It showed me that proactive fire prevention saves homes, protects families, and can truly make the difference between losing everything and surviving a wildfire.
That experience is the reason I started Acre Attack. My mission is to help homeowners protect what matters most by creating defensible space, reducing wildfire fuel, and educating people on how to better prepare their properties before fire season arrives. I don't just believe in fire prevention, I have lived through the difference it can make. As the son of a firefighter and someone whose family was protected by proper defensible space, I'm committed to helping others safeguard their homes, their families, and their future—before the next wildfire strikes.
