Thankfully he is harmless and since he actually eats rats and rattlesnakes, I got a hoe and gingerly helped him out of the pool fence.

With more chickens we have an abundance of breakfast eggs, so yay for making homemade pasta again!

I've tried maybe a handful of times before and they always looked "rustic". But these turned out so well!

Sauce was from the store, sausage was from having brats over the weekend and basil is about the only thing growing in my garden, so lil dude helped me harvest and chop and sprinkle that in.

The kitchen garden is pretty bare because we weren't here to plant much in spring, and with the scorching heat many of the plants I added have died so I haven't dared to plant much more till fall.

But I've gotten the gate done, added a hose stand and hose line, and am keeping a few harty, heat loving herbs alive.

Also the lavender plants which I aggressively pruned back are filling in and giving me lavender stems again!

Second full week of school done, we tidied up the school room and are going into the weekend strong.

Well see about the heat tomorrow - but hoping to get one or two projects done.

For now, just enjoying the pool!

It's HOT in southern California - hotter and more humid than we are used too and I think much of the country is feeling this extra crispy summer.

I added a third shade cloth to my chicken run- this one is 90% blocking and also has reflective strips to radiant the heat back and off.

The last two were black, so they probably were holding heat in the run.

The passion vines are growing well, I'm hopeful that by next summer they will be covering and shading more of the run. But for now, artificial shade will have to do.

Also this is mid morning and I have it positioned to block more afternoon sun, but each end of their coop will be shaded half the time and the middle should be shaded all day so the soil will stay cooler there.

I've also added electrolytes to one water source so they can drink that or plain fresh water.
