We are deeply sadden by the passing of our Office Manager, friend, and Level Green matriarch, Lynn Garris. Lynn was always there for the team. Her warm smile, huge heart and unconditional love has been a leading example for our company's culture. Please join us in showing support for her family. If you would like to share a photo, thought or memory about Lynn please use the link below to post to the memory wall.

We love you and we will miss you Lynn, but you will forever be in our hearts.

As a close-knit family company, one of our challenges in the past year has been not being able to come together to celebrate accomplishments as a company. Our annual Holiday party that brings all of our supervisors and managers together for a meal and to present company awards was something that got cut for the benefit of all employee health.

Even though we can't meet as a large group we still feel it is important to continue the culture of our company in the best way we can considering the circumstances. On Friday our DC branch held an outside celebration to hand out awards and deliver boxed hot lunches from Casa Blanca Bakery to all crew members.

DC Branch Manager, James Kole, handed out the following awards:

Supervisor of the Year – Jose Castro with consistent job quality and most hours saved compared to estimate (not pictured due to being scheduled off)

Branch MVP – David Saravia – Always willing to help other team members. Coordinated all branch appreciation food. Always willing to switch his scheduled closing nights. Combined his crews saved more hours compared to estimates.

Most Enhancement Sales – Anthony Fuller – Sales drive the branch. Anthony exceeded his sales goal by 29k, even more than that if you include construction sales.

Safety Award – Josue Martinz – with no recorded incidents for him or any of his crew members

Third-Party Referral Services

The landscaping industry is undergoing some major changes in the way it operates internally and externally. There are lots of new trends coming out that utilize and adopt available technologies from other industries. There is a growing push to make every step of the process frictionless for the client, from how services are purchased, to how they are performed, to how completed tasks are communicated to customers.

In the residential sector, services that mirror Uber, DoorDash, and GrubHub's platforms are starting to pop up.

There is concern that these services will further commoditize our industry and some are reluctant to accept these radical changes. Whether or not you believe they are good for the industry as a whole, it is important to monitor their impact and to be prepared to adapt.

Check out this article by Lindsey Getz in Turf Magazine to get some more insight into what is happening.

Some in the lawn care industry see third-party referral services as helpful revenue drivers, but others have concerns about what they mean for the market.

How I Do It: Maintaining Employee Motivation - National Association of Landscape Professionals

Landscaping can be very hard work, and motivating people to keep coming back every day can be challenging.

Check out some tips from Douglass Delano in this article from the National Association of Landscape Professionals

It’s natural for your employees to sometimes lose motivation, but it is your job as the company leader to step up and provide the right morale boost for your team. “It is our responsibility as leaders/coaches/managers to be aware of how our employees are feeling and intervene when we can to lift...

Now that winter has set in across the Mid-Atlantic gone are the beautiful colors of leaves and flowers that covered our landscapes. However, that doesn't mean that your property needs to look drab, it actually creates the perfect backdrop and framework for colorful Holiday lighting.

Seasonal decor has been proven to raise moods and increase foot traffic. The nostalgia mixed with the bright colors spike dopamine production in our bodies and can lead to increased happiness.

Our motto at Level Green Landscaping is "Do the right thing", and that doesn't just mean with customers, it means with our employees as well.

Last Friday, we contracted Walgreens to help us as we hosted the first of 3 clinics to provide free Flu shots to our employees. We have over 90 employees signed up to receive this care.

Thank you to all the nurses and pharmacists that helped make this event safe and successful!

This past Saturday, September 26th, 2020, we sponsored a site cleanup at Glen Echo Park (U.S. National Park Service) for the 32nd Annual Alice Ferguson Potomac Watershed Clean-up Day.

Many members of our team, family members, and members of the community joined together to safely pick up debris from around the site.

For co-owner, Doug Delano, it was an extra special day as he was also celebrating his birthday!

Thanks to everybody who made the day a success and transformed the park into a cleaner environment.

As a company we are excited to be on the cutting edge of new technologies that are starting to come into the landscaping industry.

Yesterday we had an opportunity to see a live demo from a robotics company that is creating a completely autonomous mower built with state-of-the-art A.I. that is capable of recognizing and avoiding obstacles.

We had a special opportunity to partner with another landscaping company in the area to help out the community we serve. Level Green's Paul Wisniewski and McHale Landscape Design's Keith Bowman had been talking for months about doing some volunteer work together. McHale helped clean-up and mulch the Light House - Homeless Prevention Support Center in Annapolis. Keith asked Paul if he would be willing to help with the maintenance and of course he jumped at the opportunity to help with such a great organization. McHale put Paul in touch with Heather Cassidy, the Deputy Director at the Light House who said they would be happy to have our help since COVID had taken a toll on the property's appearance.

We put a team of volunteers together that included managers, crew members and office staff to work on the property this week.

We are delighted to have been part of this great opportunity to give back to an organization that has given so much to the Annapolis, Maryland community. We look forward to continuing to give back to the community alongside our industry partners in the coming months. Thanks to everybody that made the project a huge success!

Being safe during these uncertain times has meant that our teams have kept socially distant and have not held any in-person meetings inside. However, our company has a strong family bond and it is important that our teams are able to interact with each other in person at times.

Our DC branch has found a creative way to hold team meetings and keep everybody safe - great job!
