🎾 Spencer, Josh, and Andy (behind the camera) from our Virginia Design Build Team put the finishing touches on this brand-new pickleball court! These talented team members played a crucial role in bringing this court to life for our client and are giving it a test run, enjoying their hard work with a little healthy competition! 🏓
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and joyous Fourth of July!
Our skilled carpentry crews erected this prefabricated pavilion atop a deck of Ipe, a Brazilian hardwood, completed just last year. Perched above a serene koi pond crafted by our talented landscape technicians and embraced by vibrant plantings, it's a testament to our craftsmanship and efficiency, installed in just 2 days.
You get to experience the transformation in just over 30 seconds!
Imagine... a poolside paradise that feels like a vacation at home. With McHale, you can.

You’ve seen awe-inspiring photos of our projects, but have you ever wondered where the genius behind them begins?
It’s a very long and detailed process with many parts and players from all our in-house divisions, but at its very essence, they all start with a vision. ... and before this vision can be fully realized, it needs to be conveyed visually to our clients.
From hand renderings to 3D virtual flythroughs, these are just a few elements our design teams can include to present our clients with a visually cohesive and detailed plan.

When you KNOW, there’s a designer meeting in progress. 🤣
Before any landscape installation can truly be realized, the brilliance of our designers must be translated visually to our clients.
Though we currently utilize many tools along various stages of this storytelling process, some of our designers still use the tradition of hand-rendered drawings.
It’s an art form that we hope never gets lost in the world of computer animations. Both help visually tell our clients a story about their property’s potential.

Hope everyone had a fabulous 4th of July! 🎆🎇

Did you know that every fall, millions of monarch butterflies migrate from their breeding grounds here in the northeast of America to spend the winters in the forests of Mexico?
And every year, each migration is by a new generation. So, this 3,000-mile trek every fall is not something they learned, but something that is part of their makeup, part of their genes.
In July 2022 the monarch butterfly was classified as an endangered species.
Our region is within the butterfly’s journey north and they lay eggs on Asclepias, commonly called milkweed, which has become increasingly scarce. Maintaining patches of wild milkweed is best, but growing ornamental milkweed, commonly called Butterfly Weed, in your landscape and perennial gardens can help the survival of the monarch butterfly.
This video was captured by one of our designers while they were in Cape May recently… nature is amazing!!
MCHALE LANDSCAPE DESIGN OFFERS AN ENDLESS AMOUNT OF STRIKING POSSIBILITIES FOR YOUR LANDSCAPE
We own and operate our own nursery, and for over 30 years have also established great relationships with the best growers in the industry, which allows us to guarantee the quality of the plants in your garden.
McHale Landscape Design follows the standards implemented by the American Nurseryman Association and Landscape Contractors of America. Our team is licensed by the Maryland Department of Agriculture and Maryland Home Improvement Commission, and also holds the necessary state and county licenses. We follow every regulation, including soil test and nutrient management programs. We employ six Registered Landscape Architects, seven Certified Landscape Technicians, and five Certified Professional Horticulturists.
Each landscape project includes using slow-release fertilizer and pre-emergent herbicide to ensure healthy growing plants and to prevent the invasion of weeds. McHale Landscape Design has developed its own soil amendment mix of sand, pine fines, Leafgro, and soil to provide the nutrients needed to ensure the proper development of your garden. We recycle our debris into usable nutritional soil amendments and follow “green” practices.
Fall may soon be upon us, but until then, we will continue to enjoy our summer annuals and container plantings!
Just as the seasons add color and vibrance to nature, seasonal plantings do the same to any landscape.

Next Generation of Horticulture Experts in the Making!
Wyatt McHale Pike knows his plants! 😁🌳
....the next generation of horticulture experts in the making!
One of the tools utilized by many of our designers is Lumion, a 3D rendering software that helps visualize a project during the design phase.
This architectural visualization tool allows our clients to get a true sense of how their Design-Build installations will look, envisioning themselves in the landscape before the construction even begins.

Looking back at your college years, so many professors trying to teach, mold, and prepare you for your future career. We all have that one “exercise” that stuck with us! …the one that truly taught you something useful and unforgettable.
This is an exercise that stuck, for Steve McHale… learning how to draw quickly with the right pressure, because if you take too long or press too hard, the ink will bleed into the paper, ruining your drawing.
Do you have any memorable lessons you‘ve learned along your way?
