Satellite Beach Woman's Club History

The Satellite Beach Woman's Club was formed in 1964. Club projects have included: The SB Library Christmas tree; library and recreation building furnishings; Pelican Park parking, tables, benches, pump, Satellite High School landscaping, Desoto Park grill, playground equipment, Fire Department mannequins, playground equipment for schools, dune crossovers, trees for the city, mentor programs, scholarships, sea oats on dune line, Great Decisions Study Program, Fitness Programs, Christmas charity, Teen Zone, Police Department video cameras, and the Save the Beach Community Improvement Project, which in 2002 won first place in GFWC Florida. Following this in 2009, the Club raised funds for a safety call box at the new Hightower Park. Keep us, Oh God, from pettiness; let us be large in thought, in word, in deed. Let us be done with fault finding and leave off self-seeking. May we put away all pretense and meet each other face to face,
without self-pity and without prejudice. May we never be hasty in judgment and always generous. Let us take time for all things; make us to grow calm, serene, gentle. Teach us to put into action our better impulses, straight-forward and unafraid. Grant that we may realize it is the little things that create differences, that in the
big things of life we are at one. And may we strive to touch and to know the great common human heart of us
all, and, Oh Lord God, let us forget not to be kind. by Mary Stewart (1904)Women’s Institute : History of Mary Stewart Collect

It was quite an honor to host Amy Sanchez, CEO of the Battered Women’s Justice Project, and MOSAIC Initiative Co-Directors Lynn Rosenthal and Rosie Hidalgo—national leaders in the effort to end domestic and sexual violence, online sexual exploitation, and trafficking—to explore opportunities for collaboration and community impact.

Through education, advocacy, service, and community engagement, GFWC members are uniquely positioned to help create safer communities and stronger futures for women, children, and families.

As GFWC International President, I am proud that national leaders recognize GFWC as an important partner in this work and are seeking our involvement in advancing solutions.

Opportunities are ahead to learn and take action—including MOSAIC’s upcoming webinar on online safety and GFWC’s International Day of Service on September 26.

Now is the time for members to engage, show up, and help drive this work forward to prevent violence and exploitation in our communities.

On Saturday, May 16, Beth Davison, Ilene Herr and Deborah Ruscillo traveled to Deltona for the Spring District 6 meeting. The Deltona Woman’s Club put on a beautiful program and were so pleased that we made the trip! We met so many wonderful ladies from our furthest north district club!
