🪦 Restoring a Memorial to Its Proper Position 🪦

Even a well-built monument can shift over the years as the ground beneath it settles. When that happens, careful attention to the foundation can make all the difference.

We recently completed another monument releveling, taking care to restore the marker to an even, upright position and improve its stability.

At Evermore Monument Care, we believe every memorial deserves thoughtful attention and work performed with respect for the person it honors.

Because preserving a memorial means preserving more than stone.

Every name tells a story worth preserving.

🪦 Another Monument Restored & Releveled 🪦

Over time, shifting ground and settling can cause a monument to lean, putting stress on the stone and taking away from the dignity of the memorial.

For this restoration, we carefully releveled the monument by correcting and leveling the foundation, bringing the stone back to a stable, upright position.

The goal isn’t simply to make it look better; it’s to preserve the memorial for generations to come.

Every name tells a story worth preserving.

Just wrapped up a preservation minded relevel and reset on this monument.

The goal was to stabilize what was already there, correct the settling, and leave everything secure, neat, and cared for, without trying to make it look brand new. Some age and wear will always remain, and that’s normal.

This is why monument repair is about more than cleaning.

When we first encountered this monument, the foundation had settled and needed to be releveled. The upright tablet had also separated from its base and was being supported by rocks to keep it from falling.

We carefully releveled and reset the foundation, reset the base, repositioned the tablet, and joined the components using monument setting compound.

The goal wasn't simply to make the monument look better; it was to restore its stability and preserve it for the future.

And our work with this monument isn't finished. We will return to provide preservation-minded cleaning, helping to carefully maintain the stone while protecting the monument's historic character.

Every monument represents someone's family, someone's history, and someone's story. We believe that deserves to be treated with care.

We completed a careful reset and stabilization on this monument. The base had settled out of level, and the top die section had come off and was resting nearby. We excavated below the base to remove unstable material, rebuilt the setting bed with compacted crusher run, and brought the monument back to level, plumb, and properly aligned at each joint.

Next step is a gentle, preservation minded cleaning of the stone. We’ll complete that after the setting materials have fully cured, so everything remains secure and undisturbed.

Wow! What a difference 5 months makes.

When you think preservation-first, you won’t always see immediate results. However, you can rest knowing the monument has been safely cleaned.

The beautiful end result is still the same, but the integrity of the stone has been protected.

Before and after from a recent marker reset.

This monument had shifted over time, and it looked like earlier repair attempts had been made (including bricks under the base and older setting material between sections). It may not look like a significant lean, but once markers start moving, they usually keep moving. Small shifts can open gaps, let water in, and lead to more settling, cracking, or an unsafe wobble over time. Addressing it early is often the simplest, most preservation minded way to keep the monument stable and looking cared for.

We carefully reset the base on a firm, stable bed so the marker sits level and secure again. My goal is always preservation minded care, done with respect, so this resting place looks cared for and stays safe.

Cleaning will be completed at a future visit.

If you ever notice a marker leaning or settling, feel free to reach out.

History can be damaged, but it doesn't have to be forgotten.

This historic Georgia marker, “Toward the River,” commemorates the movement of Union forces toward the Chattahoochee River during the Atlanta Campaign in July 1864.

The marker itself was struck by a vehicle, destroying the original post and leaving the marker displaced. Fortunately, the marker was still in decent condition. We carefully repainted the lettering and surface where needed, then reset the marker on a new post and returned it to its place.

For us, historic preservation isn't about making history look new. It's about caring for the physical reminders that connect us to the people, places, and events that shaped our communities.

Every Marker Tells a Story Worth Preserving.

A solid foundation deserves to be set right.

This granite die and base had shifted over time, leaving the monument noticeably out of level. As part of this restoration, we carefully releveled the granite die and reset it securely on its base, restoring the monument’s original appearance and dignity.

Monument care isn't always about making something look new. Sometimes, it's about correcting the things that time, weather, and the ground have changed, while preserving the monument itself.

At Evermore Monument Care, we take the time to do the work carefully and respectfully.

Every name tells a story worth preserving.
