I haven't made a plumbing job post, in a while. So I thought I would share one of my latest jobs, from start to finish.
This water closet was in the basement and has been setting on a solid concrete form, for nearly 30 years. We were asked to see if there was anything we could to to make it more user friendly.
Once we removed the water closet we busted up the poured concrete block, then cut the floor, removed the concrete and dirt, took out the old cast iron pipe, then began to install the new waste lines.
Once the new line had been installed we saw it was slightly out of the concrete so we had to pour a higher formed pad to account for the new fl**ge.
We simply installed a low standard water closet which made the newly elevated pad and water closet reach the ADA (handicapped) height, match perfectly.
We then cleaned up, tested with no other known problems.
This job was a unique opportunity to reach outside of our normal daily routines. Being able to think effectively, proficiently, and professionally is more than what we do collectively, here at Jon The Plumber.
Please reach out to us for your next quote/ estimate so we can assist you with your next project.
We don't charge for free advice. 🤙

Wow! This month marks my tenth year as Jon The Plumber LLC. I didn't just start out as Jon The Plumber, I was first just Jon The helper.

I began my plumbing journey just after I left the Army, in 2003. Mainly due to my dad's enthusiasm and encouragement. I first began just using a shovel and digging ditches, for underground plumbing drain lines. It truly wasn't for the faint of heart.

Moving forward, I learned how to plumb residential homes, while becoming proficient at it. Then I moved to another type of plumbing, commercial. I began learning how to run copper, core drilling, read prints, gas work, and different codes. I was still a novice but with more experience than most.

In 2005, I moved to Union and began working with Howard Boulware, my mentor and friend. He taught me more about what I already knew and then enhanced it by teaching me about the municipal aspect about plumbing as well. This is where I was able to become well diverse in all principles of the trade, of plumbing.

I am now approaching a quarter of a century, of my life, as a plumber and ten years as a business owner. It has not been easy to do. I have endured long hours, lost wages and family time, hurt and sore body, physically and mentally drained, loss of customers and friendships, and so much more. Many people feel that owning a business will make you wealthy and solve all of your problems. However it is only the beginning.

For a plumber, anyone can glue two pieces of pipe together and claim they are now a plumber. Then under-charge what I would and make a few extra dollars. But when you don't have to pay for the liability of what "could" happen then it is easy to not have to charge what bigger companies charge. Believe me, no one wishes for bad will for any one person, but the truth is in today's time people will protect their investment, even if they have to do litigation process.

Plumbing is and always will be an evolving education profession, and the day I believe that I know everything there is about it, is the day I will hang it up for good. Because I don't know everything and I love to learn and moreover I love to pass on my knowledge to those who want to learn. But even that has proved to be challenging because most people now feel as though they know more that you do, and underestimate the profession.

Being a business owner has taught me so many things. The first, is that the IRS can be brutal. That is why I never attempted to do it on my own. The second, never take on a job that you can not do by yourself. (Meaning employee's are hard to come by and good one's are even more difficult keep) Then third, just be honest. I try to be honest with everyone. I have made mistakes, stepped on toes, and made wrong decisions but I am only human, who hasn't? But I don't steal and I don't cheat people. I have worked hard for what I have earned and to get where I am today.

Ten years ago, when I opened my company, I wanted to do it right. Have my plumbing license, my insurance, workman's compensation insurance, and truck insurance. Today, I still have it and still I don't have to look over my shoulder in fear of an inspector to come catch me, for not having any of it. I am in favor of anyone of any trade excelling and doing business for themselves, but I am also in favor doing it the right way and protecting themselves and the customer, by being licensed, in their prospective profession. Even professional cooks go to culinary school. Why wouldn't you want your professional contractor to be licensed? Is saving a few dollars worth the price of the lack of knowledge or lack of insurance? Below is a copy of my Plumbing license...any licensed contractor should have one, at all times, just like this and/ or similar to it and can be obtained from LLR.sc.gov to verify.

Either way, it is always up to you to decide which contractor to use, for what job.
I just want to personally thank anyone and everyone that has ever used my plumbing services over the course of years. I am truly grateful and humbled to be able to continue to serve you, with the hopes that I will continue to do so for many years to come.

As a token of my appreciation for all of my past, current, and new customers for the rest of the month, of June 2026, I am offering a 15% discount on all service calls, if you mention this post, at our next visitation (limit one per household/ family).

Thank you very much, from the bottom of my heart and thank you for allowing me to Remain #1 IN THE #2 BUSINESS 🤙

Though-out my life I have been called a "Daredevil", Thrill-Seeker", etc. Just because I went against the gain and did what was out of the so called norm.

It really began watching Evil Knievil, as a young boy, when stunts was cool. I had many of his actions figures and as soon as I knew how to ride a bicycle and skateboard we would make jumping ramps and launch ourselves as high as we could, into the sky. Landing on our knees, hands, and faces. (Not in that particular order either) Then we would walk around for about 5 minutes and act tough, rub dirt in our wounds, make adjustments to our prospective bikes, and do it all over again.

As we go older we turned our bikes in for motorcycles and cars. The rush was the same but the adrenaline was greater. Racing the engine while it would be right at the verge of red-lining, the gauges. Even somehow think you could out smart the law, and you probably did that one time, but not that Motorola nowadays.

Then for me I wanted more, so when I joined the Army I wanted to jump from aircrafts. So they trained me to jump from C-130's, C-141's, C-5's, then I learned how to jump from helicopters such as the ch-47, uh-1,uh-60 and I even got to jump from a Zeppelin hot air balloon in Belgium.

Being in the Military my passion for flying came in to play where I would love to learn how much I loved to fly in a plane or helicopter. The overwhelming passion of flight from years past has lead me to want to take another risks again.

However, my current profession does keep me grounded and more especially humbled. Day's like today make me realize that I am longer that adolescent man that needs to keep up with my childhood idol, Evil Knievil.
Being a plumber is not just gluing two pieces of pipe together and playing in poo 💩. Our jobs are way more in depth than that. From digging, concrete removal/ installing, natural gas lines, water and waste lines, filtration systems, remodeling bathrooms, shower/ fixture installing, drain clog repairs, and much more.

But today, we had to remove and old gas line out of a rooftop. This wasn't that bad except the roof was approximately 40 feet up. We first went on top of the roof and broke free all of the piping so all that was left was just the penitatration through the roof, from the pipe. We then had to devise a way to go inside the building and get in the steel beam rafters to gain access to the same gas line. The only viable options was to take an extension 40' ladder and prop it up on the steel trusses and climb up to access the pipe, I needed to get to.
So that is exactly what I did. extended my ladder, then with my pipe wrench in hand I climbed to the very top and lodged myself in the trusses as to not fall, while I was working.
I finally finished my project and climbed back down safely and still nervous about the entire situation. Because it wasn't the height of the ladder but the angle it had to be set at...because it was indoors we had to lay it at an awkward angle which made the ladder shake and very unstable.
I made the decision to climb up myself and do the work as I prefer to lead by example and show my guys that even at my age I am not afraid to be able to complete any tasks despite the risks that may lay ahead.
The images below are just a mere foreshadow of what type of work had to be done, and what we set the ladder up on so I could work up in the trusses.
The real question is am I still being a Daredevil or a du***ss....???? lol Either way the job had to get completed in a timely manner so we had to adapt and overcome the situation and improvise..🤣🤣🤷‍♂️
