🌨️ Just got hit with a hail storm here in Tyler, TX!
Even though the hail was on the smaller side at our personal home, there is multiple areas that had larger hail stones hit here in Tyler and surrounding areas. Regardless, it’s worth a free roof inspection! This will be our first notable hail storm in this area in 2 years. That said, it will more than likely bring in all of the roofing companies, including the ones that pop up in a day, and leave right after. If your roof took a beating, don’t wait. ❄️ What is an Ice Dam—and Why It’s a Big Deal for Your Roof ❄️

An ice dam is a ridge of ice that builds up along the edge of your roof, blocking melting snow from draining properly. Water backs up behind it, seeps under shingles, and can cause leaks, rot, mold, and costly interior damage.

How Ice Dams Form (Quick Breakdown):

• Warm air escapes from your home into the attic → melts snow on the roof.

• Melted water flows down to the colder eaves/overhang → refreezes.

• Ice builds up, creating a “dam” that traps more water.

Key Ways to Prevent Ice Dams (Protect Your Home This Winter):

• Boost attic insulation — Keep heat inside your home (aim for proper R-value to stop roof warming).

• Improve attic ventilation — Add soffit, ridge, or other vents to keep the roof evenly cold—no hot spots melting snow unevenly.

• Seal air leaks in the attic (around pipes, wires, ducts, recessed lights) to stop warm air escape.

• Keep gutters clean — Clear debris before winter so water can flow freely if melting occurs.

• Remove excess snow safely with a roof rake (from the ground—never step on a snowy roof!).
