***What Does Licensing Involve?***

In the state of Texas, there are RIGOROUS requirements that a professional plumber must meet. For example, to become a journeyman plumber, they must complete 8,000 hours (approximately 4 years) of documented experience, plus 48 hours of approved classroom training.

Essentially, proper licensing requires that your plumber be highly experienced, receive ongoing training, and stay up to date on current trends in the plumbing industry.

****Is Insurance Really Important?***

Yes, it is! Your plumber must be insured to work in residences in your area. This protects YOU from liability should they accidentally damage your property, or injure themselves during the job. You should feel absolutely comfortable asking your plumbing company for proof of insurance before work begins in your home or on your property.

***Why Isn’t a General Handyman Enough?***

Even without the licensing and insurance that we mentioned above, trusting important plumbing work to a general handyman or some other amateur can leave you with a surprise—and not the good kind. An inexperienced plumber can make a number of mistakes, including:

*Choosing the wrong tool to fix a leak or clear a drain, resulting in more damage to your pipes than there was to begin with.

*Lacking the correct inspection equipment and either making a huge mess finding the source of a clog as a result, or being unable to effectively complete the job.

*Incorrectly connecting plumbing joints and fixtures, leaving you with leaks soon after installation.

*Failing to follow local building codes.

*Doing a shoddy job and requiring that you pay even more for a professional plumber to fix it!

Hiring an inexperienced plumber or handyman is simply NOT WORTH THE RISK. If you take the time to understand why hiring a licensed and insured plumber is important, you’ll be glad you did!
