For two days this week, Forest Resources employees from across Westervelt stepped away from their day-to-day responsibilities and came together for the 5th Annual Forest Resources Summit!

Our guest speakers brought fresh perspectives and plenty of food for thought. Brian Reaves challenged attendees to push beyond perceived limitations during his presentation, Ignoring the Impossible, while Dr. Jerome Goddard kept the audience engaged with humorous insights into the fascinating world of insects and their impact on human health.

Just as valuable as the presentations were the conversations between colleagues, the sharing of experiences, and the opportunity to reconnect with peers from across the organization.
The Summit concluded with a Safety Day, serving as a reminder that safety remains at the heart of everything we do.

Sustainable forestry starts with a long-term commitment to the land. Managing healthy, productive, and resilient forests requires active stewardship that helps reduce the impacts of wildfire, drought, insects, and disease.

That work also produces materials such as thinnings, residual wood, bark, and other byproducts. When strong markets exist for these materials, forest owners can invest in even more forest health initiatives, creating a cycle that benefits the land, supports rural economies, and helps keep working forests thriving for generations to come.

Working forests support jobs and businesses across America. But mill closures have left many rural communities without reliable markets for the low-value wood and residuals generated through mill operations, fuels-reduction work, and responsible forest management.

Let the countdown begin!

The 21st Annual Charlie Hughen Memorial S***t Shoot at Westervelt Lodge is 3 months away on November 6 at 8 a.m. at Westervelt Lodge.

This event supports Log a Load for Kids, a nationwide campaign started by the forest products industry to improve children's health through treatment, education, and research. Since 1988, loggers, foresters, landowners, and forest products companies have raised funds for Children's Miracle Network hospitals and local children's healthcare programs. In Alabama, proceeds benefit the CHIPS Center at Children's of Alabama, which provides support, medical evaluations, counseling, and healing services for children and families impacted by suspected abuse and neglect.

Mark your calendar and help us continue this tradition of supporting Alabama's children while enjoying a great day outdoors.
