New data from the Q1 2026 Freight Fraud Index shows carriers with legitimate authority and a clean operating history were responsible for roughly 50% of theft incidents in the quarter, exposing the limits of traditional vetting.

Identity theft tied to freight fraud is also up nearly 90% year over year. The takeaway: "we've worked with them before" isn't the safeguard it used to be. Every load still deserves a verification step.

A PLC (programmable logic controller) is the small computer that directly controls a piece of equipment, like a specific machine on the line. SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) is the bigger system that lets you monitor and control many of those PLCs from one place.
