We’ve had our first bagworm sighting—about 3 weeks earlier than usual. Now is the time to treat them so they severely damage or kill your trees. Hand-picking is an option if the trees are small enough to make it manageable. You can also spray or apply a systemic treatment.

Why Is One Branch Leafing Out Later Than the Rest?

Trees don’t always grow evenly, and sometimes individual branches mature at slightly different times during the season. However, if one branch consistently leafs out later than the others, it could signal an underlying issue with the tree — such as nutrient deficiencies or a problem within the tree’s vascular system. This may also be amplified in maples, in our urban environment, due to the high temperatures we experienced in January this year.

Events like late freezes (like the one we experienced today) can make this difference even more noticeable. Cold snaps can delay growth or stress certain parts of the tree more than others.

Before assuming a branch is dead, give the tree a few weeks. Many trees will recover and push new growth once temperatures stabilize.

The bigger question to ask is: How can I make sure my entire tree is healthy and thriving? Regular inspections, proper watering, soil health, and early detection of stress can make a big difference in long-term tree health.

Just loving on a cool Elm’s soil!

We decompacted, amended and mulched a large section of the trees root zone, and now it’s living the life!

Literally took a tower of mulch 😂

Pretty much, we all have the flu and either lost our voices, or feel like we are dying……

Has your tree had a history of intercepting lightning strikes?

Some trees can intercept multiple strikes during the course of their life, and a Tree Lightning Protection System can greatly reduce the energy it receives. These systems are very similar to the ones installed on towers and tall buildings, (the main difference is how it’s attached to what’s being protected).

We go above and beyond with our installs, and test to make sure the system is at or below 25 (+/-2) ohms of resistance. To put it in perspective, ANSI A300/BMP “TLPS” requires 50 ohms or less, so our system are twice as efficient!

Why is this important?

If a system is installed at 50 ohms and a drought hits, that same system might now test at 100 ohms! The lower the Ohms, the higher the likelihood that the system will intercept the strike versus the tree.

Here in Oklahoma, we tend to have periods of drought and then sudden quick storms, so it only makes sense to go the extra mile………. Or extra ground rods and plates that is 😂.

A big shout out!

Tree Love’s arborist Brian just passed an important exam, and is now an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist! 🎉🌲🎉

Less than 2% of ISA Certified Arborists ever achieved their BCMA, so it’s quite a feat in knowledge attainment. Talk about bragging rights!

No company in Northern Oklahoma has as many tree nerds now!

Yep, most of our trees fine absorbing roots are located in soil horizon O & A, roughly 0 - 18” down!

Do you have irrigation lines, utilities, or a French drain install coming up? Let us pneumatically excavate.

Depending on species and soil type, we can selectively remove roots, while allowing the passage over various pipes underneath.

(Another benefit of air? We found three irrigation lines, an ancient PEX natural gas line, and some other weird pvc pipes. No damage…… Because it’s air).
