Great design doesn’t happen in a vacuum.
Valley Creek College (VC College) in Flower Mound, Texas is a great example of what’s possible when architectural and structural design come together to transform an existing space.
For this project, our team worked alongside Schemmer to retrofit an existing building and add a second floor above the gym, creating four new classrooms. The existing gym was reconfigured to make room for an expanded café, merchandise store, and lounge area.
The team also removed and replaced structural steel to open up new classroom and seating areas while coordinating new bay bracing. Outside, a large covered circular patio was added to create additional space for students to study, gather, and enjoy the outdoors.
Projects like this require thoughtful coordination between architecture, structure, and the way people will actually use the space. It’s a great example of how collaboration can turn an existing building into something that serves its community in a whole new way.
