Interesting day in the trees!

We were called in for an emergency removal of an Aleppo Pine that had been rated as an imminent failure due to a large split in a co-dominant leader. We rearranged our schedule to accommodate the removal, but before we could begin, we discovered a nest in the tree. Upon inspection, we found these little guys sunbathing and waiting to be fed, along with an egg. 🐣

At that point, operations came to a halt, and we called in the experts from Arizona Raptor Center to help us safely relocate the nestlings and protect the wildlife.

Within an hour, Bob Carson from Arizona Raptor Center was on site assisting our team with the rescue. Had the tree failed, these little guys, named Flotsam and Jetsam by Pete Thomas, likely would not have survived.

A huge thank you to our incredible team and to the team at Arizona Raptor Center for helping us do the right thing today. Amazing work!! 👏

A few months ago Stan spotted these two Great Horned owls tucked into a Pine tree, probably last year’s fledglings. The tree has since died, so we carefully moved their nest to the neighboring tree before we removed their old Pine. Hope the parents still come back this season! 🦉🌲
