African Milk Bush (Euphorbia bicompacta)

Much like the plant spotlighted before Euphorbia's contain a low severity toxic sap that can lead to varying degrees of skin irritation. However that is only if they get damaged! Otherwise it is a beautiful plant that poses no threat unlike other prickly plants.

Use it as a houseplant or keep it outdoors, this plant prefers low humidity making it thrive in our dry heat.

๐Ÿ“ฃPlant Spotlight!

The African Milk Tree (Euphorbia trigona f. rubra) is not a tree but a succulent! When damaged it will secrete a white milky substance but don't taste or touch it,. The sap is toxic and can cause irritation of the skin, eyes, or mucous membranes.

Don't let this ornamental scare you, it more than makes up for it in looks with its deeper red hue and the three sided columnar limbs.

Find it at our Fall Plant Sale in the new nursery with 3x the space!

Pruning Part 1: Basics & Shrubs

Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 4:00 pm

Pruning is a complex topic, so we've divided the topic into two classes. Sign up for either or both. Part 1 covers the basic principles of pruning with an emphasis on woody shrubs.
What is rejuvenation pruning and when should you be using it? What's the difference between shearing, heading, and size reduction, and which should you be doing? We'll also talk about tools and when NOT to prune.

Did you know our Master Gardeners lead the Campus Arboretum Tours?

We are a proud partner of the ! Tours cover a variety of topics each week on Sundays. Don't worry if you can't make one week they rotate the topics regularly so you have plenty of opportunities to take one or all of the themed walking tours.

Arboretum tours are free but to help the program count numbers, registration is required. Also keeping tours smaller allows for more Q&A time for each participant.

Follow their eventbrite page to stay up to date on all the tours [URL] https://www.eventbrite.com/o/university-of-arizona-campus-arboretum-tours-65029058133
