We've had lots of questions about TEP's Energy Storage Rewards program, which compensates TEP customers with Enphase Energy batteries if they "lend" their batteries to support the grid.

In this latest post from Net Zero Solar's Louis Woofenden, we explore the program in detail–how it works, pros and cons, and particular settings. Check it out, and please share your questions and thoughts!

Did you know that Tucson Electric Power has a pilot program that allows you to get paid if you allow them to use your batteries to support the grid? This “virtual power plant” program allows our clients with Enphase batteries to potentially save more on their electricity bills, if they allow TEP...

“Our TEP bills are too high now,” writes Janelle Menick in a public comment on the ongoing Tucson Electric Power rate case. Hal Bergsma asks how people on fixed incomes will afford a rise in prices. “Will they eat less, cut back on medication or set their thermostat at a higher, unhealthy temp...

And we’re back on grid! I could’ve continued this experiment, pretty much definitely, but I want to use the excess energy from for my solar to build credit credits with TEP, so I switched us back to the grid.

Still going strong with Enphase batteries, as I test the off grid capabilities of my system.

Off grid continues: Lots of battery capacity left, and thanks to the pre-cooling of the house in the afternoon, the air conditioner hasn’t even kicked on yet this evening. The house is still at a comfortable 77°F, with the AC set for 78°F. Plenty of juice for the AC to kick on a few times throughout the night.

I’m still running off grid with my Enphase battery system. Now that the sun is lower in the sky, and we have some late afternoon clouds, it’s time to stop pre-cooling. But I managed to get the house down to 66°F – a kind of ridiculous temperature!

Precooling continues with my Enphase battery system, while batteries are nearly charged.

My Enphase battery is almost fully charged. What to do with the excess solar that can’t go to the battery other loads? Let’s set the AC to a low temperature, and “pre-cool”

My batteries are getting close to fully charged, and my water heater is powered!

I’m still running off grid and my air conditioner is running off of batteries and solar! It’s a good feeling to have the security of cooling, even if the grid was down.
