Mike runs the electrical division at Temperature Control, and the range is about as wide as it sounds. Circuits for your AC system, pump work, EV charger installs, panel work, and the ceiling fan you've been meaning to swap out for two years.

People tend to assume the small stuff isn't worth calling about. It usually is. A GFCI in a bathroom takes a fraction of the time, and it's exactly the kind of thing that gets put off until it matters.

A tune-up looks like somebody standing next to your AC for forty minutes.

Here's what's actually happening in that time.

The coil gets checked for dust, because a dirty coil can't shed heat and the system just runs longer trying. Airflow gets checked from the filter through the blower, since restricted air strains everything downstream of it.

The electrical side gets checked because capacitors and contactors wear out, and a Tucson summer is hard on both. A weak capacitor is one of the most common reasons an AC quits in August.

And the condensate drain gets checked, which sounds minor until it isn't. Your system pulls moisture out of the air and that water has to go somewhere. When the line clogs, it backs up, and it usually finds a ceiling on the way down.

None of it is dramatic. That's sort of the point. The work is in catching things while they're still small.

One slow drain is a clog. Two slow drains is a different conversation.

Most plumbing problems give you warning for a while before they turn into an emergency.

The catch is that the early signs are easy to explain away. That sink has always been slow, the bill was probably the summer, the water heater has always made that noise.

Three worth not writing off:

- If more than one fixture drains slowly at the same time, that usually points to the main line rather than a clog under any one sink.

- If your water bill climbs and your habits didn't, something is running where you can't see it.

- If your water heater rumbles or pops, that's sediment settling at the bottom. Tucson's hard water leaves a lot of it, and it makes the heater work harder than it needs to.

None of these mean something is broken today. They just mean it's worth a look before the problem picks the timing for you.
