What a difference a year makes! πŸ’šπŸ
Here's a little sneak peek of a Before & After GreenBee sustainable landscaping project for one of our favorite clients.

This is just one area of the yard we redesigned. The full project will be on our website soon! Rainwater harvesting (passive) earthworks, native plants galore, fruit trees, pollinator gardens, hardscape updates, and some favorite client trees to round it all out. Desert oasis indeed.

Subscribe to our newsletter at www.GreenBeeAZ.com so you don't miss seeing the full reveal of this incredible landscape transformation.

Obsessed with this deliciously fresh and spicy pesto that I made from my first Tucson CSA produce pickup! I'm so happy they recently opened their waitlist. ✨️

Our second meal in a row, with one more jar in the fridge. Last night, we ate it over grain free gnocchi. Tonight, over rice and whitefish.

And I'm pretty sure it tastes even better in this beautiful bowl from the lovely and talented Shazieh of Agave Pantry .

Used the whole bag of arugula (CSA folks said it would be spicey and good for pesto - so glad I listened)
Plus a large head of raw garlic
A bunch of olive oil
Quick work in the food processor
Then a whole lot of sheep romano (because my belly doesn't enjoy cow dairy)

So good. And so so grateful for access to locally grown, seasonal, organic produce.

First comes the rain, then comes the buzz!
A few days after a good monsoon downpour, standing water becomes prime mosquito real estate.

Mosquitoes need water to complete their life cycle. They need wet conditions to lay eggs and grow from an aquatic larva into a flying adult. Humans create the vast majority of the wet conditions used by mosquitoes in Arizona. The best way to prevent mosquito-borne diseases is to minimize the number of mosquitoes and to prevent them from breeding in the first place.

Here are some tips on what you can do to manage mosquitos, eliminate mosquito-breeding sites and protect your yard and ankles!
1. Check for standing water in plant pots, bird-baths, fountains, tires, tarpaulins covering boats or other objects, and backyard trampolines and other items . Drain the water regularly (twice a week is ideal).
2. Remove unnecessary clutter. Keep rain gutters free of leaves and other debris that prevent water from draining. Store boats, canoes and other objects so they do not collect rainwater.
3. Repair water leaks (leaky pipes, sprinkler systems, and outside faucets). Correct drainage problems in yards and playing fields. Report drainage problems in ditches, etc. Fill holes or depressions in trees with sand.
4. Empty water containers for pets and check livestock watering troughs and tanks (Fig. 17C).
5. Install or Repair Screens: Some mosquitoes like to come indoors. Keep them outside by having well-fitting screens on both windows and doors. Offer to help neighbors whose
screens might be in bad shape. Do not prop doors or keep doors open, particularly early or late in the day when mosquitoes are most active.

I've been seeing a lot of buzz around and (phyla nodiflora) as an answer to the common request for a heat-, full sun-, drought- tolerant ground cover alternative to lawns and ... so I'm sharing my real life example. πŸ’šπŸ

Even with a lot of neglect, 3 big dogs, full Arizona sun, and light/moderate walking on - it is soft, cool, pretty, resilient, and feels great on bare feet. The dogs love to lay on it. And it's both a wonderful pollinator plant and desert tortoise food too. 🐒

Also rabbits eat it. πŸ‡
Yes, you can mow or trim it if you don't want to attract bees. 🐝

Sharing one of our recent projects - which is one we feel particularly proud of. Not just because the end result is gorgeous (and functional!), but because it was completed through collaboration with some truly talented, hard working friends.

angel_grinders_fabrication for the custom metal work - fence panels to view the Desert but keep javelina out, and 3 gates inspired by an old gate. The metal is steel which will rust over time and become even more beautiful.

Timo Padilla and Pennelys Droz for the intensive and creative work on the rammed earth wall that basically "hugs the land" from both sides of this backyard space. Seeing the final result makes it clear how much went into this stunning addition.

Of course, the design included rainwater harvesting - more beauty created by GreenBee's crew (especially Gabe who isn't on IG). Rockwork and terraces galore to slow and sink the rainwater and ready for planting.

Sustainable. Collaborative. Functional. Gorgeous. GreenBee. πŸ’šπŸ
