Infrastructure with a purpose. 🏆
The Santa Cruz River Wildlife Ramp Project has earned seven industry awards this year, including APWA Project of the Year at both the Arizona Chapter and National levels, Best in Show at the APWA Arizona Chapter Awards, an MPA Common Ground Award, the Arizona NSPE Outstanding Engineering Achievement of the Year Award, and two ASCE awards recognizing its regional project excellence and innovation in sustainable engineering.
In partnership with PCRFCD and Solis Engineering, Borderland helped transform a steep soil-cement levee and active irrigation canal into a low-slope wildlife corridor, creating safer passage and reconnecting fragmented habitat for Sonoran Desert wildlife.
Project highlights:
• 207 LF CMID wildlife crossing culvert
• 106 LF pedestrian bridge
• 4,653 CY of harvested river material reused for soil cement
• 5 stormwater harvesting basins
• 77 native plants grown from locally collected seed
• ADA-accessible pedestrian overpass
• Invasive species removal and habitat enhancements
Completed on schedule and $271,000 under the contracted GMP, the project demonstrates how innovative construction and early CMAR collaboration can create infrastructure that benefits wildlife, agriculture, public safety, and the community.
Proud to have helped build a better path for wildlife. 🐾
