As the evenings cool down, you want to enjoy your patio—not share it with a swarm of moths and beetles.
If your porch light is buzzing every night, the bulb itself may be the problem. It’s a common myth that bugs are simply “attracted” to light. In reality, many nocturnal insects navigate by the moon. Bright, blue-heavy bulbs—like cool-white or daylight LEDs—disrupt that system, causing insects to spiral in confusion around artificial lights.
🔆 The Fix: Switch to a Warm-White LED (3000K or lower). These bulbs emit a softer, yellow-orange light that most insects can’t detect, making your home far less appealing to them.
And this isn’t just about moths. Reducing flying insects also helps control the pests that hunt them. Scorpions and spiders (like black widows) build their hunting grounds near bright lights because it’s an easy food source. Fewer insects mean fewer predators nearby. Warm-white LEDs also produce less heat, helping to deter mosquitoes and even reduce termite swarmers during their season.
💡 Fun Fact: Studies show that warm-white LEDs are even more effective than traditional yellow “bug lights” — and they don’t attract other pests like earwigs.
