Don’t wait until there’s smoke and panic to figure out how your family will escape.

🏠 Know two ways out whenever possible
🚪 Feel doors before opening — if hot, use another exit
⬇️ Stay low under smoke
🚪 Close doors behind you to help slow fire and smoke
👶 Teach children never to hide during a fire
🐾 Include pets in your escape plan
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Have a designated meeting place outside
🔥 If clothes catch fire: Stop, Drop & Roll
🛗 Never use an elevator during a building fire
📱 Once safely outside, call 911
🚫 GET OUT AND STAY OUT — never go back inside

Have a plan. Practice it with your family. Make sure everyone knows exactly what to do before an emergency happens.

🔥 A FIRE RISK MOST PEOPLE DON’T THINK ABOUT: LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES

Cordless tools, phones, laptops, e-bikes, power banks and other rechargeable equipment commonly use lithium-ion batteries. If a battery is damaged, overheated or improperly charged, it can enter thermal runaway—creating extreme heat and potentially starting a fire.

🔋 Use the manufacturer-approved battery and charging equipment
🔥 Never charge batteries near combustible materials
⚠️ Stop using batteries that are swollen, cracked, leaking, unusually hot or damaged
🚫 Never modify, puncture or crush a lithium-ion battery
🏠 Follow manufacturer requirements for charging, storage and temperature
♻️ Never put lithium-ion batteries in household trash or regular recycling
🧯 Follow applicable NFPA fire-safety guidance and manufacturer safety instructions

If the battery doesn’t look right, don’t charge it.

🔥 YES — A PILE OF RAGS CAN START A FIRE WITHOUT A SPARK.

Staining rags containing certain drying oils, stains, or finishes can generate heat as the product cures. When those rags are crumpled together, the heat can become trapped and potentially reach ignition temperatures.

🪵 Wood stains and finishing oils can be a concern
🔥 A pile of rags traps the generated heat
🚫 Tossing them into a pile or trash can can create dangerous conditions
⚠️ Follow the product manufacturer’s instructions for safe rag handling and disposal

No flame. No cigarette. No electrical short.

Just chemistry, heat, and the wrong storage conditions.

🔥 HERE’S ONE MOST PEOPLE DON’T THINK ABOUT: THE JUNK DRAWER.

Loose 9-volt batteries can become a fire hazard when their exposed terminals touch metal objects like keys, coins, paper clips, or other batteries.

⚡ The terminals are right next to each other
🔥 Metal can connect them and create a short circuit
🔥 The battery can heat up rapidly
📦 Even “dead” batteries may still have enough energy to cause problems

Store batteries so their terminals can’t contact metal, and cover 9-volt terminals before disposal or recycling.

Sometimes fire prevention starts in the junk drawer.

Tacos, however, are a different story. 😂

Today’s project scope:

🌮 Demo: One plate of tacos
🌮 Materials: Carne asada, cheese, salsa & questionable amounts of guacamole
🌮 Labor: Extensive
🌮 Cleanup: Minimal evidence
🌮 Final inspection: Another round.

Some projects are just too important to subcontract. 😂
