The Importance of a Proper Siphon: Rigid vs. Flexible
In plumbing, the Siphon (or Trap) is your home's first line of defense against the sewer system. While it might be tempting to use a flexible accordion hose because it's easy to install, it often creates a "hanging" effect. This prevents a solid water seal from forming, allowing foul sewer gases to escape back into your kitchen or bathroom.
A professional installation uses a Rigid P-trap. This solid structure maintains a consistent shape that holds a specific amount of water at all times. This water acts as a "plug" that stops odors and protects your family's health.
Key Teaching Points:
The Water Seal: The "U" or "P" shape must always hold water to block gases.
Smooth Walls: Rigid pipes have smooth interiors, preventing hair and grease from getting stuck, unlike the ridges in flexible hoses.
Durability: Rigid PVC or chrome is less likely to sag or leak over time compared to thin plastic flexible tubing.
