It appears that 2026 will mark a return to normalcy. This week, our company received 13 phone calls from customers who had initially chosen to work with our competitors, despite our bids. As I always advise customers who decide not to work with us, please do not hesitate to contact me if issues arise. The current economic climate, with rising interest rates and other challenges, can be difficult. Those customers have since reached out for assistance, and we look forward to working with them in the future. Here are some essential 'buyer beware' tips to keep in mind when gathering estimates: Exercise caution when dealing with companies established during the COVID-19 pandemic and thoroughly research their background. If a contractor lacks experience with projects similar to yours, conduct further research. Ensure that the company has a skilled team or a reliable network of contractors. If their price is significantly lower than others, investigate the reason. The cost of materials for paver probects can range from $13 to $15 per square foot, and labor typically cost $12 to $15 more than that. Even if the bid is structured differently, scrutinize the estimate. At our company, we acknowledge our limitations and focus on our core competencies. We have established relationships with other companies that specialize in tasks such as concrete pouring, electrical work, landscaping, and plumbing. While we possess the knowledge to perform these tasks, we recognize that we lack the necessary labor, skills, and tools. Mike Darling Construction excels in hardscaping, masonry, and carpentry, and we remain committed to our areas of expertise. Looking forward to 2026
