Broken Gate Gardens Ashley here, I started growing flowers in 2023 and got hooked! Sharing my backyard garden journey, one season at a time!

Thanks to all the generous donations from this season, I just made a huge seed purchase for next season! This order includes some classics I’ve grown a couple of times and some brand new flowers to add more variety!!

Johnny's Selected Seeds is one of my top choices for seeds! Highly recommend!

I can’t say thank you enough for all the love and support! It truly means so much!

Millions of monarch butterflies are starting their journey to Mexico for the winter. This season I released 62 monarchs into the world! My hope is they all make it to their winter retreat. I found my first 6 caterpillars on July 26th and released my last butterfly on September 10th!

I decided to be apart of the Monarch Watch tagging program this year as well. This program sends you stickers to add to the wing of the butterfly and then you submit your tag numbers back to the organization. From there, people can go to monarch watch and input a tag they found/saw on a butterfly. The goal is to be able to track the migration patterns of monarchs! I highly recommend checking out all the resources Monarch Watch has.

I can’t wait for monarch season next year!

With my first flower cart season in the books, I decided to celebrate with a delicious DQ ice cream cake! Of course I had to get some cute flower candles to top it off!

I can’t say thank you enough for all the love and support this season. It has been so much more than I ever expected! I have truly loved putting together flowers each week and sharing those beautiful blooms with you all. I have enjoyed being able to meet and talk with some of you when you stopped by the cart! I appreciate all the kind messages and comments, the generous donations, every interaction has been so special! I’m just a gal who loves gardening and I’m grateful to share that passion with you all.

Now stay tuned as I share in the coming weeks what is in store for next year!!

It may not feel like fall outside, but I’m bringing fall inside with this arrangement! I planted a few sunflowers to have some blooms late this season and these two beauties did not disappoint. I also took a try at growing mini pumpkins (we won’t talk about the bugs getting to them) and had a few small ones that I decided to use in this arrangement! Hopefully this helps signal fall to come in!

Alright friends, the flower cart will be out tomorrow at 7am! I have 8 arrangements!

Now, I’m going to be straightforward, this is possibly the last cart of the season. I was really hoping to go all of September, but I have to be honest with myself and admit the garden is tired. This intense heat is brutal to already tired flowers. I’m going to keep an eye on the garden this week and I’m trying to help the flowers best I can. But the bloom quality is not looking the best and I always want to share high quality, long lasting flowers. So, if this is the true end of the season, I hope you enjoy these blooms!

I will make an official post late next week on the status of the cart.
