Funny how an old video can hit you differently years later.

Sitting here tonight with Caitlin, watching some old Wood Tech videos from when I was doing hardwood floors downstate. These were from a completely different chapter of my life, long before I ever imagined I’d end up in Northern Michigan.

Life changed a lot in between.

But watching myself sand floors, apply finish, and do the work I’ve always taken pride in honestly makes me happy. After stepping away from flooring for a while, I’m back doing what I know and what I love—building Wood Tech again, this time in Northern Michigan.

Sometimes life takes you a long way around just to bring you back to where you belong.

Pretty cool looking back and realizing the craft never left me. ❤️

Engineered red oak wood floor glued down to concrete using Loba/Woc...

Tearing out the existing oak and carefully lacing in new oak to create a seamless blend. A big part of this job is in the details — I’m also removing a section of the subfloor to get everything back down to the original subfloor height so the new unfinished oak sits perfectly level with the existing floor.

It takes time and precision to get the layout, height, transitions, and grain all right, but those details are what make the finished floor look like it was always there.

Once the installation is dialed in, I’ll sand everything smooth, stain it, and finish it to bring the whole floor together. 🔨🪵

Final sanding is just about wrapped up! 👌

The floor is smooth, clean, and ready for the next big step — stain samples! 🎨

I always like putting the stain samples directly on the actual floor so my clients can see how each color reacts with their specific wood, lighting, and home. What looks great on a sample board can look completely different once it’s on the floor.

Now it’s time for my clients to choose the perfect color before we move forward with the finish. 🪵✨

Installing this beautiful 3”, 4”, and 5” solid maple hardwood flooring the right way.

For this project, we’re using the Bona R540 Moisture Barrier followed by Bona R851 Wood Floor Adhesive. This system provides excellent moisture protection, a strong bond, and helps deliver a floor that’s built to last for decades.

Quality installation starts long before the finish goes on the floor. Using premium products and following manufacturer-recommended installation methods is what helps ensure long-term performance.
