After 30 years of maintaining the empty field to the left of our home it pains me to tell my neighbors that the field and bed area that runs along the side of the home will no longer be taken care of.

The property line runs a few feet off the side of our house - why the previous owner ran it that close is beyond me - but it’s done now. If you are a long term resident of Travelers Rest you may remember back in the early 90’s the field was 3’ high and our home was being inundated with mice and water. The basement flooded every time it rained and the worry was that it would also at some point start washing the soil from out around the piers. We installed a foundation drain that was about 7’ deep at one point. As part of the drainage solution we built up the bed area to create a berm and installed all the plant material to hold it in place.

We began regular maintenance of the field, finish mowing and bush hogging to tamp down the mice population. We did all of this and were happy we could make not only our house, but make the street more attractive for our neighbors.

In 2010 our landscape business downsized to a point that it was possible to move to Mr. Smith’s old blacksmith building. Before doing so we asked the pastor at TRFBC if that was going to be a problem. He assured us it wasn’t that the church had no intention of selling or developing it.

TRFBC decided in 2019, out of the blue and without notice that they no longer wanted to continue this arrangement. The first letter sent threatened legal action if we didn’t “get off” within 30 days. Hence, the cattle gate and the threat to install fencing which will necessitate cutting down all the plants, which is probably for the best since they have no intention of maintaining them.

I tell you all this to explain why there is about to be a dramatic change to the look of this property and I want you to know that it is not what we wanted for us or our neighbors. It has been a very emotional journey, and the fact that this is coming from a church I will admit makes it so much worse.

This was litigated since repeated request to have a meeting with the church deacons were flatly rejected time and time again. So, to all of my friends and neighbors please know we tried our best to not have this outcome and I apologize that apparently one side of my home will now be unmaintainable as we have been told that if we step foot on “their property” we will be arrested. I sincerely hope this doesn’t affect your home’s value as much as it is going to impact mine.

From Craig...As many of you know we are undergound/landscape contractors. 31 years and counting. In that time I have worked in and around every buried utility you can imagine. Cindy's family also owns several rental properties, one of them a very nice 30 unit mobile home park near downtown Greenville. A neighboring park, not owned by us, is a dump. Very poor families live in the trailers that are owned by an outfit out of Michigan. They could care less. One of their trees fell, taking out power to our entire park. In the process, ONE power meter box was uprooted from a post it was on. Duke is refusing to restore power to BOTH parks until that box, which is under a large tree and hooked to THEIR dead lines, is removed and put bck on the post BY US. I have never had them refuse to respond to a damaged power drop before, ever. They are leaving over 80 people, many of whom are sick and elderly and poor, power even though they have a line crew 200 feet away. It is NOT the line crew's fault. They operate off of work orders. So...tomorrow I personally will remove their lines from the box, dig out and reset the box on a new post with another electrician friend of mine. The Duke Power female rep was very snotty and dismissive and cavalier about it with Cindy on the phone. Call your SC House officials and let them know when Duke comes sucking around for money and refusing to bury service lines or even start on the project which creates most of this mess to start with. If we don't start burying these old overhead service lines, even a 1/4 mile at a time, whatever, it will NEVER be done. Even if it takes 50 years this must be started. And yes it IS possible. Do not listen to the agitprop that it is too expensive. Hope all of you are well and safe.

Just finished a job at 107 Brookway Drive in Greenville. This house is about to be put on the market. It has been very tastefully updated with a beautiful kitchen and bathroom.
The landscaping amounted to raw dirt in the front and weeds and Poke Salad waist high in the back. Years of neglect had taken their toll. We came in and installed plants and sod in the front and side. Cleared and graded the back before seed and straw was applied. It took some work but it completed the update so that the inside and outside now look like they belong to the same property.

Working in Downtown Greenville today on an irrigation system that has a massive leak. Thanks to many years of experience and the Sonic Leak Detection equipment it took us a grand total of 20 minutes to cap all the heads on this zone and trace the leak. We are the only irrigation company that has this equipment, and the only company period that will use it for locating irrigation leaks.
While there is an additional fee for this equipment it saves tons of time digging random holes in your yard tearing up your lawn and costing scads of money.
We find and fix leaks of any type on any type of pipe. When you are tired of the rest call the best! 864-430-0117

This was supposed to be a really easy repair. Zone 5 wasn’t coming up, and while he wanted more work that was the most important thing to get up and running while he waited on us to do the rest.
Nothing is easy peasey lemon squeezie- at least if we are on site. The valve had been improperly wired so poor Craig got a moment of feeling like the hero. Once it was wired up correctly the darn zone ‘s heads still didn’t fully engage.
Turned out to have two major leaks caused by root damage to the pipe. Poor me had to listen all day as Craig insisted that he knew through some sort of Johnny Carson “Carnac the Magnificent” routine that this seemingly simple job was going to require him to chop his way through rootzilla and create pipe offsets.
I’m going to change my name to “long suffering” cause I do have some Cherokee blood and Lord knows it fits! Going back next week to fix more leaks on the system and undo his non serviceable valve manifold system into a system that has been updated and worked on without other long suffering wives or employees having to heat about it!😂

Chanticleer Subdivision. Ready for sod after clearing out the wood line (which pushed back the visual property line to where it actually is), grading a three tiered lawn, irrigation and mulch installation. Zoysia sod is next to complete this phase of the project. Plants are next once it finally cools off! It’s been a fun job because it has taken an almost unusable space to something this wonderful family will build many memories around.

When you are having a foundation drain installed around your home consider that the contractor is going to be digging with a machine RIGHT NEXT TO YOUR HOUSE. He needs to be good at it or you might get a nasty surprise!
