One of my biggest priorities in the garden isn’t just what I grow—it’s who I’m growing it for. 🐦🌿🦋

From planting native flowers and trees to leaving places for birds to shelter, nest and forage, I’m always thinking about how our backyard can support the wildlife that shares this space with us.

Adding bird feeders and keeping them filled with Pennington bird seed is just one small piece of that bigger picture. Creating a backyard habitat doesn’t have to happen overnight—every native plant, water source, tree, seed head and feeder adds something. And getting to watch the birds make themselves at home? Easily one of my favorite parts of gardening.

Everyone leaves in August and I stay for what’s left. The crowds go, the water empties out, and what’s underneath it is the town I actually love, slow mornings, the same surfers paddling out at sunrise, that haze that only sits over the water right before fall pulls the color out of everything. I want the wide open sand with nobody on it and I want the version of this beach that never makes anyone’s feed. Both. Always both.

North Carolina, you never cease to surprise me. Even when I think I know all your secrets, you show me new wonder. ✨🤎

The trip you haven’t thought of? Try a restored barn in the middle of the NC mountains where the schedule is just — hike before the river, or after?

I adored this place. Wide open fields in every direction. Wild ponies at the state park down the road living their best unbothered life. Breweries and cute cafes close enough to feel like civilization when you want it. Dog-friendly. Genuinely cozy kitchen. Beds that actually let you sleep.

And the light through those old barn windows. That’s the part I keep coming back to in my head. It’s the kind of light that makes you stop trying so hard and just shoot what’s actually in front of you. A photographer’s dream 📸.

I can’t even imagine Long Branch Farm in the fall, I plan to see it one day. The memories a whole family can collect here, pure magic.

This is the trip that gives something back.
