🛠️✨ Another Deck Brought Back to Life! ✨🛠️

We recently completed this deck transformation using Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck® Deck & Dock Coating, and the difference is incredible!

When a deck starts looking weathered, worn, or tired, replacement isn't always the only option. With the right preparation and the right product, many older decks can be restored and given years of additional life.

For this project, our team thoroughly prepared the existing surface before applying Sherwin-Williams Deck & Dock. This durable coating is designed for heavily weathered wood and helps provide a refreshed, more uniform appearance while protecting the deck from the elements.

Before you spend thousands replacing an aging deck, let us take a look. It may have plenty of life left in it!

🏡✨ More Than Just Painting — Helping a Family Rebuild After a Basement Flood ✨🏡

We recently wrapped up a project for a family whose basement had flooded, and we were grateful for the opportunity to help them get their space put back together.

While Graystone Painting & Refinishing is best known for painting and refinishing, we can also help with a variety of light remodeling projects that often go hand-in-hand with painting.

For this basement project, our team completed:

✔️ New LVP flooring installation
✔️ New base trim installation
✔️ Trim painting
✔️ Wall painting

The result was a clean, refreshed basement that felt finished again after a stressful situation.

Whether your project involves painting, flooring, trim carpentry, door installation, or a combination of several improvements, Graystone can help simplify the process by handling more of the work under one roof.

If you’re planning an interior update in Topeka, Lawrence, Eudora, or the surrounding communities, we’d love the opportunity to help.

🪵🏡 A Great Paint Job Starts With a Thorough Inspection 🏡🪵

At Graystone Painting & Refinishing, we believe that exterior painting is about much more than applying a fresh coat of paint. Before we ever pick up a paintbrush, we carefully inspect your home's exterior for wood rot, damaged siding, loose trim, and other problem areas.

Painting over damaged wood or failing siding only hides the problem temporarily. Our goal is to fix issues before they become bigger—and more expensive.

If we find:
✔️ Wood rot
✔️ Damaged or loose siding
✔️ Trim that needs replacing
✔️ Moisture-damaged areas

Our team can make the necessary repairs or replacements before painting begins, giving your home a solid foundation for a beautiful, long-lasting finish.

When you choose Graystone, you're getting more than painters—you’re partnering with a team that wants to help protect your home for years to come.

If your home is due for an exterior refresh in Topeka, Lawrence, Eudora, or the surrounding communities, we'd love the opportunity to help.

☀️🏡 Does the South Side of Your Home Look Faded While the Rest Still Looks Great? 🏡☀️

If you've noticed that the south side of your home looks faded, chalky, or dull, but the other sides still look great, you're not alone. This is one of the most common things we see on homes throughout Topeka, Lawrence, and Eudora.

Why does it happen?

🌞 The south side of your home gets the most direct sunlight throughout the year. Over time, constant UV exposure breaks down the paint, causing it to lose its color and eventually develop a chalky residue. While some chalking is a normal part of the aging process, excessive chalking is often a sign that your home's protective coating is nearing the end of its life.

The good news? A professional repaint using premium products like Sherwin-Williams Emerald® Rain Refresh can restore your home's appearance and provide long-lasting protection against the harsh Kansas weather.

At Graystone Painting & Refinishing, we don't just apply new paint—we properly prepare every surface by pressure washing, removing chalking, scraping loose paint, priming where needed, and sealing gaps with high-quality caulk. Proper preparation is the key to a paint job that lasts.

If one side of your home is starting to show its age, it doesn't necessarily mean the entire house has failed—but it may be the perfect time to have it professionally evaluated.

We recently completed this exterior painting project in Holton, KS, and we love how it turned out! 🏡🎨

This customer already loved her home’s color scheme, so the goal was not to completely change the look—it was to refresh, protect, and bring the exterior back to life while keeping the colors she already enjoyed.

That is one of our favorite types of projects. Not every exterior repaint has to be a dramatic color change. Sometimes the best update is simply making the home look clean, fresh, and well cared for again.

For this project, our team focused on:

✅ Proper exterior prep
✅ Cleaning and surface preparation
✅ Addressing areas that needed attention
✅ Maintaining the existing color scheme
✅ Applying a fresh, professional finish
✅ Helping improve curb appeal and protection

Exterior painting is about more than color. It is part of maintaining your home and protecting it from sun, rain, wind, humidity, and Kansas weather.

Thank you to our Holton customer for trusting Graystone Painting & Refinishing with your home!

Deck maintenance is not one-size-fits-all. 🪵☀️

The stain or coating you choose can make a big difference in how your deck looks, how it ages, and how much maintenance it will need in the future.

A few common options include:

✅ Transparent or clear finishes
Great for a natural wood look, but usually require more frequent maintenance.

✅ Semi-transparent stain
Adds color while still allowing the wood grain to show. Beautiful finish, but still needs regular upkeep.

✅ Semi-solid stain
More color and coverage while still showing some wood texture. A good middle-ground option for aging decks.

✅ Solid color stain
Best for a more uniform look and older decks that need more hiding power.

✅ Deck coatings
A heavier option for rougher, weathered decks that need more help than a traditional stain can provide.

The more natural the look, the more often the deck usually needs maintenance. The more opaque the finish, the more it can help hide imperfections and create a consistent appearance.

At Graystone Painting & Refinishing, we help homeowners choose the right stain or coating based on the condition of the deck, previous coatings, sun exposure, moisture, and how much maintenance they want to keep up with.

If your deck is faded, gray, rough, peeling, or ready for maintenance, we’d be happy to take a look.

We recently wrapped up an exterior painting project that brought this home back to life. 🏡🎨

The exterior was ready for a refresh, and our team at Graystone Painting & Refinishing helped give it a cleaner, brighter, more updated look using Sherwin-Williams Emerald® Rain Refresh.

Exterior painting is about more than changing color. It’s also about protecting your home from sun, rain, wind, humidity, and Kansas weather.

For this project, we focused on the details that matter:

✅ Proper exterior prep
✅ Cleaning and surface preparation
✅ Addressing problem areas before paint
✅ Quality application
✅ Premium exterior paint
✅ A fresh finish that improved curb appeal

We love using Emerald Rain Refresh because it’s a premium exterior paint designed to help homes look great and hold up to the elements.

The final result was a beautiful transformation and a home that looks fresh, clean, and well cared for.

When it comes to interior painting, the product matters just as much as the color. 🏡🎨

At Graystone Painting & Refinishing, we don’t use the same paint for every surface because walls, trim, doors, and ceilings all have different needs.

For many interior painting projects, we recommend:

✅ Sherwin-Williams Duration Home for walls
Durable, washable, and great for real-life spaces like hallways, living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and kids’ rooms.

✅ Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel for trim and doors
A smoother, harder finish designed for baseboards, door frames, interior doors, window casing, and other woodwork that gets touched, bumped, and cleaned.

✅ Sherwin-Williams Premium Ceiling Paint for ceilings
A clean, flat finish that helps reduce glare, hide minor imperfections, and make the room feel brighter and fresher.

A quality interior paint job is more than putting color on the wall. It’s about proper prep, drywall repairs when needed, protecting your home, choosing the right products, and applying them the right way.

If your home is ready for an interior refresh, Graystone can help.

That powdery residue on your siding? That’s called chalking—and it matters before painting. 🏡🎨

When exterior paint starts breaking down from sun, weather, and age, it can leave a chalky film on the surface. If new paint is applied over that residue, it may not bond properly.

That can lead to:

✅ Poor adhesion
✅ Uneven color
✅ Premature peeling
✅ Early paint failure
✅ A shorter-lasting paint job

At Graystone Painting & Refinishing, we know a quality exterior paint job starts before the paint ever goes on the house.

Proper prep may include washing, removing chalky residue, scraping loose paint, repairing damaged siding or trim, caulking, priming where needed, and then applying the right finish coats.

We often say it because it’s true: prep is what makes the paint job last.

If your home’s exterior looks faded, dull, chalky, or weathered, we’d be happy to take a look and help you protect it the right way.

🏠🚪 More Than Just Painting! 🚪🏠

At Graystone Painting & Refinishing, we're known for transforming interiors with fresh paint, but sometimes the best improvements go beyond a brush and roller.

On a recent interior project, our customer wanted easier access to their attic storage space, so we installed a new access door that blends seamlessly into the room while making their storage much more functional. After completing the installation, we finished everything with professional paint and trim work for a clean, finished look.

We love helping homeowners improve both the beauty and functionality of their homes. Whether it's painting walls and trim, repairing drywall, installing doors, or tackling those small projects that make everyday life easier, our team is here to help.

If you're planning an interior update in Topeka, Lawrence, or Eudora, we'd love the opportunity to help bring your ideas to life.
