Your furnace passed its tune-up.

Great. 👍

But what did they actually check? 🤔

What was inspected?
How’s the airflow?
Were the safety controls checked?
Did anything show unusual wear?
Is there anything you should keep an eye on this winter?

You’re paying someone to evaluate one of the hardest-working systems in your home. You should understand what they looked at and what they found.

Ask questions. We’re happy to explain it.

Actually, we prefer it that way.

Before the furnace starts working overtime this fall, take a look at what’s stored around it.

In many Western New York basements, paint cans, holiday bins, cardboard boxes and other household items slowly creep toward the furnace. Try to keep at least 3 feet of clear space around the unit so it can get the airflow it needs and technicians can safely access it.

Keep combustible materials and cardboard away from the furnace. Don’t block the intake or return, and avoid storing anything against the vent pipes or other piping.

A furnace that’s starved for air has to work harder, and restricted airflow can become a safety issue. During a maintenance visit, we’re happy to show you what we check and why it matters. You’re not a number, you’re a neighbor.

It’s a good reminder to take a quick look around your own basement.

October in Western New York usually means one thing: heating season is officially here. 🍂🔥

A few things worth checking before the colder weather settles in:

✅ Change your furnace filter
✅ Make sure vents and returns aren’t blocked
✅ Test the thermostat
✅ Listen for any new or unusual noises
✅ Schedule your furnace tune-up

You don’t have to wait for something to stop working before you give it some attention.

A few small checks now can help keep your system running the way it should when you really need it.

Not sure where to start? Give us a call. We’re happy to help.

Before you fire up the furnace for the first time this season, take a few minutes to check your carbon monoxide detectors. It’s a simple step that helps keep your Western New York home ready for cooler weather. 💙

✅ Test each detector and replace the batteries if needed
✅ Make sure detectors are placed near bedrooms and furnace areas
✅ Check the expiration date and replace any outdated units
✅ If an alarm sounds, get outside immediately and call 911 or your local emergency service for help

No panic: just good seasonal preparation. At Evolution Heating & Air Conditioning, you’re a neighbor, not a number. Stay safe, stay comfortable, and enjoy the start of fall! 🍂

One of the most common questions we get: should you cover your AC unit when it’s not in use? 🍂

A cover can help keep leaves and debris out, but a fully sealed wrap may trap moisture and create a welcome spot for rust, mold, or nesting critters.

If you cover your outdoor condenser:
• Use a breathable cover designed for AC units, or cover only the top.
• Keep the sides open for airflow and ventilation.
• Remove the cover before turning the system on: never run your AC while it’s covered.
• Clear away leaves and debris around the unit throughout the fall.
• If large icicles form above your condenser a piece of plywood secured on top may help protect the fan from damage when the ice falls.

Not sure what’s best for your system? We’re happy to help. Just give us a ring, 716-919-2600. At Evolution, you’re a neighbor, not a number. 🍁

First furnace fire-up of the season? Give your nose a quick check. 👃🔥

A brief dusty or burning-dust smell can be normal as dust burns off.

Musty odors, burning plastic, electrical or metal smells, or any gas smell are not “wait and see” signs. Shut the furnace down and call for help.

If you smell gas, leave the home immediately and call 911 or your gas utility from outside.

A seasonal tune-up can catch issues before heating season gets busy: and Evolution’s 24/7 emergency service is here when something doesn’t feel right.

You’re not a number, you’re a neighbor. Serving homes and businesses across Western New York.

We could tell you we take our time on a service call, but one of our customers said it better. 🔧

The year before, another company completed their tune-up in about 20 minutes.

When Lou came out, he spent roughly two hours going through the system.

Does every appointment take two hours? Of course not.

But if your equipment needs more time to properly figure out what’s going on, we take the time.

We don’t believe the clock should decide when the diagnosis is finished.

The goal isn’t to get in and out fast. The goal is to get it right.

First heat of the season shouldn’t sound like a mystery. 🍂

A brief click when the thermostat calls for heat or a soft whoosh as the blower starts is usually normal.

Give us a call if you hear:
• Banging or rumbling after startup
• Squealing or screeching
• Repeated clicking with little or no heat
• Any sound that’s new, loud, or getting worse

Those noises can point to airflow, ignition, belt, motor, or burner issues. Not every sound is an emergency: but catching a small problem early is usually much easier (and less costly) than dealing with a cold-night breakdown.

An early-season tune-up helps your furnace start safely and efficiently. You’re welcome to watch our technicians and ask questions during the visit: we believe you’re not a number, you’re a neighbor.
