HVAC myths that Houston homeowners believe - busted. π
β MYTH: Close vents in unused rooms to save energy.
β
TRUTH: Closing too many vents can restrict airflow, increase pressure, and make your system work harder. Keep your vents open unless your system is specifically designed for zoning.
β MYTH: Bigger AC = better cooling.
β
TRUTH: Oversized systems short-cycle and don't run long enough to remove humidity. In Houston, that can leave your home feeling clammy. Proper sizing beats max BTUs.
β MYTH: Change your filter once a year.
β
TRUTH: Many Houston homes need a new filter every 30β90 days, and some need them more often. A clogged filter restricts airflow, reduces efficiency, and can contribute to AC problems.
β MYTH: If it's blowing cold, it's fine.
β
TRUTH: A system can blow cold air while losing efficiency or developing problems. Cold air doesn't tell you the whole story. Performance testing does.
β MYTH: All HVAC companies are basically the same.
β
TRUTH: ...We'll let our 30-year customers answer that one.
