GENERAL CONTRACTOR’S ADVICE ON REMODELING:
Are you remodeling for you or for resale value or both? The easy answer is to say for “both” and often times it is the true answer, however if this remodel is going to give you the look and features that you’ve waited many years for and you have properly saved for it, then do it the way you want. If you envision staying in your home less than 5 years then make choices that are “crowd pleasers” that you can enjoy today but everyone else will when your ready to sell.
Find inspiration photo’s. Don’t re-invent the wheel, with the invention of Pinterest and the Houzz website there are some great ideas out there. Pin several so that you can see what your style is and where your taste are trending and does that mesh well with the rest of your home’s current architectural details? Current trends are sleek and clean lines, minimalism, with a hint of modern touches.
Identify a feasible budget. This is not information that you always have to share with your general contractor because there may be some aspects of the project like countertop stone that may have a little more flexibility. However in general, we will be able to save you a lot of time by making recommendations on a “prepared menu” of selections to keep you on track with your budget.
Be prepared for the wait. There’s an emotional journey that you’ll go through, especially in a large renovation: Excited and anxious for it to start. Waiting for it to be over. Sense of accomplishment and pride once it’s finished.
Let BiG Deal Construction help guide you through your renovation project and make sure that the finished product is perfect for your specific needs whether it’s resale value or making your current home become your dream home.
