Tinley Park, we hope everyone is okay after that one.

This happened right outside our showroom during today’s storm. We sheltered in place right afterward and waited for it to pass.

Once it’s safe, take a look around your property from the ground. High winds can damage roofing, siding, windows and doors—and some of it may not be obvious right away.

Watch for missing or lifted shingles, loose siding, damaged gutters, broken seals, cracked glass or water getting inside. Take photos of anything you notice, but please don’t climb onto the roof.

Before meeting with your insurance adjuster or authorizing repairs, call Excel for an exterior inspection. We can document what the storm damaged, explain what we find and be there to help you through the next steps.

Hopefully everything is fine. If it isn’t, we’re here.

Monday's storm hit the Southland hard — hail, high wind and tornado warnings across Tinley Park, Orland Park, Homer Glen, Lemont and Mokena.

If your home took a hit, a few things worth doing first:

• Photograph everything before any repairs
• Don't get on the roof yourself
• Call your insurance company

And be careful who you let on your roof. Crews follow storms into town. Watch for anyone who pressures you to sign today, can't give you a local address, or offers to "cover" your deductible — that last one is illegal in Illinois.
