Today we’re celebrating eight years with Cory Richardson, our Field Production Manager! 🎉

Cory joined Mountainwood with more than 35 years of construction experience, including running his own remodeling company, and brought that knowledge with him.

In his own words: “When I found Mountainwood Homes, I got all the aspects of ownership, quality, and client interaction without the extra stress.” We like to think we got the better end of that deal.

Cory leads our production team with a calm, steady approach and a deep commitment to doing things right. Our team and clients value his experience, high standards, and genuine respect for the craft.

We’re grateful for everything Cory brings to Mountainwood and proud to celebrate eight years with him.

“With hard work, time management, and diligence, there’s not a problem that you can’t work through.” 🙌

That mindset has served Derek Wood well over the past seven years at Mountainwood Homes.

As a Project Developer and Operations Manager, Derek brings a strong financial background, a practical approach to problem-solving, and a genuine commitment to helping clients feel informed and confident throughout the remodeling process.

He may have grown up around Mountainwood as Robert’s son, but Derek has built his own role and reputation here through how he works with clients, supports our team, and keeps things moving forward. 🔨

Happy 7th anniversary, Derek! We’re glad you're on the team.

If your home was built in the early 2000s, there is a good chance you know the look: cherry cabinetry, cherry hardwood floors, brown granite countertops, and an angled island. It was classic for its time, but for this Hillsboro family, it had run its course.

Rather than starting from scratch, we worked closely with the homeowners to identify what was already working—the layout, the space, the bones—and focused our energy on transforming what wasn't. New white oak flooring opened up the design possibilities. A redesigned furniture-style island with a quartzite slab, a drop edge, and brass feet became the room's centerpiece. Glass display cabinets, mixed hardware, and an apron-front sink added the layered character they wanted.

As designer Alison Needelman put it: "The process was a true partnership— refining each element until it felt just right. The result is a kitchen that is lighter, warmer, and unmistakably theirs."

Q: “Do I need plans already to come to Expert Hour?”

Definitely not.

Most of our clients come to us with a handful of ideas, inspiration photos, and a vision for how they want their home to feel, but no actual plans.

That’s where we come in. We help turn those vague ideas into a workable remodeling plan.

Expert Hour is a chance to bring your questions, talk through your ideas, and get guidance on what comes next.

You just need a place to start. Bring your ideas and questions. We’ll provide the coffee. ☕
