心華 SHIN KA: INNER GARDENS OF REFLECTION. Closing Week + Lecture!
Kurisu LLC is truly honored to collaborate with the team, the Embassy of Japan, and Ho’oulu: Fostering Growth to share & expand stories of Nature’s power to heal.
Shin Ka is a unique, multimedia exhibit exploring the transformative power of Japanese-style healing gardens in a most unlikely settings - a maximum security prison. The exhibit focuses on the Memorial Healing Garden at Oregon State Penitentiary, designed and built by Kurisu LLC together with adults in custody.
Through photographs, video, and audio recordings, the Shin Ka exhibition highlights the voices of the adults in custody who care for the garden, sharing their deeply personal experiences.
Also on view is a karesansui - or dry sand & stone garden, where you can try your hand at raking the granite gravel!
This special exhibit closes THURSDAY, so don’t miss it!
Please join us at the exhibit’s closing lecture by Dr. Kendall Brown, an esteemed art historian, and leading figure in the study of Japanese gardens in North America.
