If you haven’t done so time to check smoke fire detectors and co2 combo detectors . Time to check and maintain and clean your filters first your FAU heaters and Air conditioner units . Time to dry wipe away spider webs from electrical lines and outlets in garages or outside which should all be GFCI and in proper waterproof cover boxes .
If you are Thinking about back up electrical either generators or Batteries there are newer systems for battery back up without permanent solar . I will pass on information as it becomes available.

I need to vent about SCE’s new planning portal . 1. It’s not user friendly 2. You cannot reach a live tech or any support person who knows how to navigate it themselves . 3. Is handing unlicensed contractors who do not go through permit processes or care about utility guidelines or rules the green light to continue to undercut legitimate licenced bonded and insured businesses like ourselves . It also pushes homeowners and commercial jobs into the hands of union shops who have manpower and teams of people to work through the added red tape .
If you have a panel that is in need of upgrading for your needs or replacement due to the utility insistence you will have to first register and make a portal account and add your electrician as authorised user on the permission form you download print and have Notarised, upload into the portal documents page . Plus you have yo oull the electricial permit to upliad as well nit knowing if that panel will be toung in same location . Don’t be fooled it’s time consuming and once you’ve submitted everything they want, it could take 7-180 days to get approval to move forward .
Now for those effected by any of the fires the last 7 years and still in red tape abyss with city county and utilities this just added extra burden and costs to your pain .

Which are best ? Back up Battery systems or Generators are the questions we are getting . Both have their positives and negatives
Costs is the top major concern . Noise is the second biggest concern . Safety and ease of use .
Battery systems are a more expensive outlay depending on what your needs are . There are also some rebates and tax credits that make Battery Back up with or without solar feasible . 1. Batteries are not noisy like generators . 2. You don’t need to have gasoline lying around or go out to buy gas to keep you going , your neighbors will appreciate that . 3 . Portable smaller units can give you enough power for your fridge some lights and maybe the AC and you won’t need extension cords all over to trip over . Then there are the high grade whole house Batteries that can supply power to your whole house ( not everything working all at once ) where you can have more appliances outlets lights etc running for a few days before the batteries need recharging if you don’t have solar . Now there are so many types other than the tesla powe walls from small portable 3 kw -30 kw or more ranging from $800- $50000. with installation
Generators portable and permanent units . 1, can run anywhere from $350 -$25000 just the generator itself . Then you need a an automatic transfer switch another cost if you don’t want run extension cords . Must run on Gasoline or propane or natural gas plus installation costs .
Here in California we are in the era of constant weather safety related power cuts from Edison and DWP .
Personally we have solar and have decided for ourselves to install the Anker Solix X1 power system for our home . It will work with our existing solar system and give us power for a week before needing recharge . But our solar will recharge it daily, so nightly we can be on battery or use our banked grid energy .
Will keep you posted on how well this works .

With the high winds , fires and continued fire danger , power outages , it’s time to add one more thing to our lists . 1. Check smoke detectors .
2. With all the power outages due to the high winds , fires and whatever the energy companies decide are needed . You may want to consider generators or back up battery systems for your homes .

So it’s officially Summer .
