Big news for the future of hydrogen!
CB&I, alongside Shell and a team of industry and research partners, has reached a major milestone by successfully filling a first-of-its-kind liquid hydrogen storage tank at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center.

Working alongside this world-class project team, CB&I is helping create a path to low-cost, large-scale liquid hydrogen storage, accelerating commercialization and enabling the hydrogen economy at scale.

Why does this matter? Large-scale liquid hydrogen storage will be a critical part of the supply chain needed to support applications such as power generation, chemicals production and spaceflight, while also enabling future global hydrogen trade. This innovative non-vacuum tank design is anticipated to provide significant cost advantages and support storage capacities up to 100,000 cubic meters, more than 20 times larger than the largest liquid hydrogen tanks in operation today.

In the 1950s, during construction of the Sir Adam Beck Niagara Generating Station No. 2, Horton Steel Works played a key role in one of Canada's landmark hydroelectric projects.

Our team fabricated and erected twelve welded steel penstocks, each measuring an impressive 13 feet in diameter. Designed to channel massive volumes of water under immense pressure, these structures helped transform the power of Niagara into reliable electricity for generations.

Building knowledge beyond the office. šŸ—ļø

This summer, our interns gained firsthand industry experience through site visits across the country. Plainfield summer interns toured a standpipe and waterspheroid in Yorkville, Illinois, led by Jeff Eggert (Construction Technology) and Jaxx Alexander (Welding Technology). Meanwhile, our Woodlands Summer Interns visited liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen tanks in Port Neches/Nederland, Texas, guided by Brian Wiese, Sr. Manager of Plate Structures Engineering, and Brian Ward, Project Manager.

⭐ Special recognition to Yaw Bonsu, our Safety Intern, who has been contributing onsite at the Oak Creek, Wisconsin project throughout his internship.

It's National Intern Day!

This year, we're celebrating the incredible interns who have spent the summer learning, growing, and contributing to some of our projects across our organization. Their hard work, curiosity, and dedication have made a real impact.

We're proud of all they've accomplished so far this summer and excited to see what's ahead for them!

🌾 Grain on a grand scale! In 1956, CB&I built four steel grain storage tanks for Quaker Oats in St. Joseph, Missouri, adding 1.75 million bushels of storage capacity to the facility. That's enough grain to fill roughly 35,000 semi-truck trailers. A great example of the infrastructure that helped feed a growing nation.

āž”ļø Swipe to see our interns learning where innovation takes shape.

This summer, our interns are gaining firsthand exposure to the work that powers CB&I projects from concept to construction.

During the Insulation Betterment Center (IBC) tour, our Plainfield interns learned about cryogenic insulation systems, explored installation equipment, and visited the maintenance shop that supports these specialized operations.

Meanwhile, our Woodlands Interns visited the Fairbanks Fabrication Shop, to see how complex projects are fabricated and brought to life.

Experiences like these provide valuable insight into our industry while connecting classroom knowledge with real-world application. Thank you to our teams for investing in the next generation of professionals.

⭐ Espoir means hope—but on the Espoir Ivoirien FPSO, excellence is expected.

Offshore CĆ“te d’Ivoire, our team is proud to celebrate four years LTI-free, a milestone that reflects an unwavering commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Since welcoming more than 100 colleagues into Asset Solutions, our local team has successfully delivered a series of complex initiatives focused on extending asset life, improving efficiency, and enhancing productivity. This has been achieved alongside the safe management of complex quarterly offtake operations.

Safety remains at the heart of everything we do. This achievement is a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and strong safety culture demonstrated by every member of the team.

šŸ‘ Congratulations to everyone involved in this outstanding accomplishment.

In 1970, we were proud to be among the industry sponsors supporting The Blue Flame blasting into record books! Reaching an astonishing 622 mph at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats, it became the fastest land vehicle of its time.

Fueled by LNG and powered by rocket technology inspired by the engines used in the Apollo lunar missions, The Blue Flame showcased the possibilities of innovation, engineering excellence, and alternative fuels long before sustainability became a global conversation.

In 1969, while the world celebrated the first flight of the Boeing 747 and the Apollo 11 moon landing, we were making history of our own. We designed and constructed Khazzan No. 1, a massive offshore storage tank with a capacity of 500,000 barrels of crude oil. Standing 205 feet tall, measuring 270 feet in diameter, and weighing 15,000 tons, the structure was an engineering marvel of its time.

Built on a stretch of shoreline that became known as Chicago Beach because of the prominent construction crane, the tank was floated 60 miles offshore on a trapped bubble of air before being successfully submerged in the Fateh Oil Field in August 1969.
