🌀Hurricane prep isn’t just plywood and flashlights. Your home’s AC system needs a plan, too.✔️
With tropical weather approaching North Houston, take a few minutes to look around your outdoor AC unit before the wind and heavy rain arrive.
Loose patio furniture, toys, branches, planters, lawn equipment, and other outdoor items can become wind-driven debris that damages the condenser coil, fan, wiring, or cabinet.

Before the storm:
• Remove loose objects from around the outdoor AC unit
• Clear leaves, branches, and debris that could block airflow
• Trim weak or overhanging limbs only when it’s still safe to do so
• Make sure the unit is firmly positioned and doesn’t appear loose
• Consider professionally installed HVAC surge protection for future storms
• Replace a dirty air filter so the system has proper airflow
• Take clear photos of the indoor and outdoor equipment before the weather arrives
Don’t wrap a running outdoor unit tightly in plastic or a tarp. Your AC condenser needs open airflow while operating.
After the storm, inspect the area before turning the system back on. If the outdoor unit was flooded, struck by debris, shifted, damaged, or is making unusual sounds, leave it off and have a licensed HVAC professional evaluate it.
And remember, your family’s safety comes first. Follow official weather alerts, evacuation instructions, and local emergency guidance.
