What’s your favorite way to support tomatoes? πŸ…πŸ€”

Everybody’s coming out with a new tomato cage these days! From upside-down pyramid cages to snap-and-go kits, pro series supports, and collapsible ring systems, there are more options than ever. 🌱

Some look promising, some look a little tippy πŸ˜…, but at the end of the day, the best support is the one that keeps your tomatoes upright and productive all season long.

Which one are you using in your garden? πŸ‘‡πŸ…

What do you train your pole beans on? πŸ€”πŸŒ±

I’d never heard of a bean tower before, so I was excited to give this one a try! 🌿 This bean tower from Park Seed Gardening is a completely different approach compared to the fences and arched trellises I’ve used in the past.

It only took about 5 minutes to put together, and the galvanized steel frame should hold up for many growing seasons. πŸ’ͺ🌱 Now the twine is up, and these pole beans are ready to climb all the way to the top!

Share your favorite pole bean setup in the comments! πŸ‘‡πŸ˜Š

Have you ever planted these with bush beans? πŸ€”πŸ§…πŸŒ±

This might be one of the best companion planting combos in the garden! πŸ§…πŸ«˜

Onions help deter certain pests with their strong scent, while bush beans stay compact and grow deeper in the soil. Their roots don’t compete much, making great use of the same space. πŸ™Œ

Plus, bush beans fix nitrogen from the air and help enrich the soil, which can benefit nearby onions. 🌿✨

Have you tried this pairing before? Let me know! πŸ‘‡

Are your fruit splitting from all the rain? πŸŒ§οΈπŸ‘πŸ˜©

I’m definitely happy the drought is finally over here πŸŒ¦οΈπŸ’§πŸŒ±, but all this rain came at the worst possible time for my plums.

As plums ripen, they can take up water faster than their skins can stretch, causing them to split open πŸ’₯πŸ‘. Once they split, rot quickly sets in, and I’ve already had to throw away about half of this first crop πŸ˜πŸ—‘οΈ.

The good news? There are still hundreds more plums hanging on the trees waiting to be harvested! πŸ™ŒπŸŒ³πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Anyone else dealing with this problem this year? πŸ€”πŸ‘‡

Can raspberries handle southern summers? β˜€οΈπŸ«

Most raspberries struggle in Zone 8 heat… but varieties like Heritage, Caroline, Dorman Red, Nova, and Anne can do much better in hot, humid climates πŸ‘€

A little afternoon shade, heavy mulch, and good airflow can make a HUGE difference during those brutal summer months πŸŒΏπŸ’§

If you’ve been wanting to grow raspberries in the Southeast, don’t give up on them just yet πŸ™Œ

How do you like to plant your garden beds? πŸ‘‡

One of the biggest problems I see with gardens today is too much bare soil 🌱

When plants are packed closely together with good mulch, everything works together like a healthy ecosystem 🌿 The soil stays cooler, moisture lasts longer, and plants grow so much better πŸ™Œ

But when beds are spread out with exposed soil, plants dry out way faster and struggle more πŸ˜… Closely planted gardens don’t just look lush… they actually help protect each other from pests and heat too πŸ›β˜€οΈ

Fit as many plants as you can into your space and watch the difference πŸ‘

What are you doing to prop up your peppers? πŸŒΆοΈπŸ‘‡

There’s a few different ways to keep pepper plants from falling over once they start loading up with fruit πŸ‘€

The classic wooden stake still works great πŸ‘
These newer plastic stakes are nice too because they’re taller, reusable, and the ridges help keep ties from slipping.

But flipping a tomato cage upside down? 🀯
First time trying it and honestly… it might be the easiest option yet.

Especially for bell peppers and banana peppers, this setup feels super sturdy 🌱

What companion plants are you putting in your garden? πŸŒ±πŸ‘‡

Here’s all the companion plants I’ve got growing right now! πŸŒΌπŸ§„πŸŒΏ Marigolds for pest control, onions tucked between plants, nasturtiums for edible leaves, tons of basil, calendula for pollinators, chives scattered around, dill with the cucumbers, and spice globe basil for that bushy growth πŸ™Œ

And the garlic harvest is getting CLOSE πŸ‘€πŸ§„ That one looked ready to go!

What did I miss? πŸ€”

Post β€œmore” if you want to learn more ways to train your fruit trees 🍎🌳

Part 5 of the series and today we’re using… toothpicks πŸ˜… This simple little trick helps train young fruit tree limbs closer to a 45Β° angle for better fruit production πŸ‘ and balanced growth 🌱

Just wedge a toothpick between the trunk and a small branch to gently push it outward. Sounds weird, but it actually works πŸ‘Œ

Also, Miss Fig πŸˆβ€β¬› was helping run the camera today… and she absolutely did knock it over halfway through πŸ˜‚

Best for young flexible limbs before they get too thick βœ‚οΈ

What’s growing in your area right now? πŸ‘€πŸŽ

Quick orchard update πŸ™Œ

The nectarines, apples, figs, muscadines, kiwis, and paw paws are all doing really well this year 🌱

Had some issues with the plums from early flowering and plum curculio, but there’s still a lot of fruit left πŸ‘

Also opened up a whole new section by removing 5 large trees, so I’m excited to see how everything fills in over the next few years β˜€οΈ

Are you growing fruit trees from seed? 🌱

Most people think it’s a waste of time πŸ˜…
Seedlings can take years to fruit

But I’m mostly growing them for rootstock βœ‚οΈπŸŒ³
American persimmons for future grafts

And a few other fast growers like loquat and bush cherry 🌿
Some even double as hedges while they establish

It’s a long game πŸ’ͺ
Stronger trees now, better fruit later 🍎
