“Funding available to help communities manage emerald ash borer

The Minnesota DNR is accepting applications for $1.7 million in Protect Community Forests grants to help communities reduce the impacts of emerald ash borer and build healthier, more resilient tree canopies. Funding can support activities such as removing, treating or replacing ash trees, tree inventories and management plans, canopy maintenance, and community education. Local and Tribal governments, schools and eligible nonprofits can apply for grants of up to $150,000, with no match required. Applications are due September 14.”

The 2026 Protect Community Forests for Community Resiliency Grant will help communities manage the impacts of emerald ash borer on public and Tribal lands and help them plant and care for a diversity of trees. Funding for this project is provided by the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Tr...

Small dose of cuteness to brighten your days like they did ours ☺️

Working with nature has its fair share of challenges, but also comes with plenty of joy.
We are always aware of the fact that our job directly affects wildlife and habitats. We do our absolute best to preserve and safely relocate any nests and animals we encounter. Some are easily set aside to be relocated by their mothers’ once we’ve gone and some are brought in to a local wildlife rehabilitation center. Rest assured that all are respectfully & responsibly cared for.

We’re aware of the graphic circulating regarding “exploding” trees 💥

This is a very dramatic representation of what can actually happen. While the risk of cracking & limb failures definitely increases with extreme temperatures, your trees will not spontaneously combust. These are temperatures that our area experiences every year. There will also not be a large temperature swing from above freezing to below freezing, since we have - unfortunately - been consistently below freezing for the past week 🥶

If you have concerns or have noticed sudden changes in your tree(s), we are more than happy to evaluate them and determine what steps, if any, should be taken.
We’d love nothing more than to keep your families safe and help preserve your trees!

The answer involves frozen sap, the polar vortex, and a lot of internet exaggeration.

We finally got the all clear to trim oaks! 🪵

We do work all winter, so we’ll be working our way down on our list of jobs for this year and contacting you about your work as it makes the most sense to perform it.
Please reach out with any questions.

Got oaks?

Now is the best time to prune them!

The trees are in dormancy and it’s an easier time to see branch structure – plus, pruning now avoids the risk of oak wilt infection.

Oak wilt is a non-native fungal disease that can be deadly to all oak species. It is spread by sap-feeding beetles that become active in warm weather. These tiny beetles are attracted to fresh wounds on trees (like those made from pruning) and can carry oak wilt spores with them from infected trees.

You can help stop the spread of oak wilt in Minnesota! Protect your oaks by pruning or cutting now. And please don’t prune between April - July, when risk of spread is highest.
