Jacqueline Lyons is an oil and acrylic painter who creates metaphorical pieces, the subject matter of which is indicative of the striving of the human psyche and the masks we wear. Jacqueline Lyons is an artist who explores contemporary realism and pop surrealism with both oil and acrylic paint. A graduate student and therapist, Lyons explores themes of mental health and trauma recovery, believing firmly in the saying coined by Cesar A. Cruz, “Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”

Because of the therapeutic nature of art, the compliment between art and mental health is present throughout Lyons’ works depicted both literally and through metaphor often depicted by the sea, evocative portraiture, and animal symbolism. For collectors who value complexity, nuance, the macabre, and the meaning-making that comes from the handmade and inspired work of a self-taught artist with an old soul, consider Lyons Fine Art Studio both your respite and your source for the piece which you've been searching.

One repurposed, gessoed canvas, one mechanical pencil, and one alcohol marker later and we’ve got ourselves a halfway-inked Labyrinth 🔮 Originally planned on making this an oil painting but am currently debating on keeping it a black and white marker drawing 🤔 What do you think?

It felt like the briefest moment in time, but it was enough to go back. It’s a place where you’d have to try very hard not to be present and not to be inspired. Walking around the old city whose history is inseparable from its artistry, I reflected on my own work and what prompts me to pick up a pencil or a brush. Why do I think this place is so beautiful? What is it about the art that is so captivating? The details.

This sculpture of a woman is one of four on a single pillar at the base of the rotunda at the Ponce de Leon Hotel, now Flagler College. You can almost miss them in the grandiosity of the art around them but they draw your eye. The architect saw fit to include every detail of this female figure, four times over. The drapery of the clothing? Stunning. The curls of the hair? Intricate. The expression on her face? Serene. The pillars are a masterwork that only heighten the art piece of this entryway as a whole.

The rotunda itself with rich warm tones, an abundance of gold, and iconography wherever there’s space. The eye is not meant to slide past this ceiling. This ceiling is not simply meant to cover your head. It engages your eye and invites you to stay.

Mines as roped fencing. History in the present. Repurposed for art’s sake, for aesthetics, for reminders of how the thing itself isn’t just one thing and doesn’t just exist for one use. The creativity of this repurposing never fails to get to me.

This beautiful mural is in a gas station. Enough said. Art isn’t exempt from places where we don’t expect it.

I need to paint water again, to paint waves again. Being back in the ocean after several years was the reminder I needed.

Nature is art. It understands the need for detail. Utility is not enough to survive and flourish.

This work of art is over 400 years old. In the middle of a motel parking lot. I could get lost in the details of this stalwart soldier.

These berries were such a refreshing pop of color and life next to a busy street.

This perspective was just stunning. It’s a shot that evokes core elements of Florida for me. The duality of some development and manicuring alongside crooked trees and branches and marshes and lakes. Dua
