This Tampa garden went from struggling in our intense heat to thriving with the combination of quality mulch and a rock barrier.

Why this helps gardens in Tampa's climate:
🔥 Beat the Heat - Mulch keeps soil temperatures 10-15°F cooler during our scorching summers
💧 Lock in Moisture - Mulch reduces watering needs in the covered soil areas; a UF study found water loss due to evaporation alone without mulch can be upwards of 33% (Gilman et al, 2012)
🌿 W**d Warrior - Mulch and rock create a natural barrier that suppresses weeds before they sprout
🌧️ Storm Ready - Rock borders prevent soil washout during heavy rains while mulch protects the surface
⚡ Double Defense - Rocks provide structure while mulch delivers ongoing soil benefits
🌱 Soil Superhero - Mulch slowly breaks down to feed your plants with organic nutrients

DIY Tip: Apply 2-3 inches of mulch around plants, keeping it a few inches away from tree trunks and plant stems. If installing a border such as rocks, do so first to create clean lines and maximum erosion protection.

🌿 Native Plants Thrive in Tampa's Heat 🌞

Tampa summers can be tough on landscapes, but native plants don't just survive—they thrive in our heat and humidity! Curating your plant selections to incorporate more Florida-native plants means:

✅ Less water needed
✅ Fewer pest problems
✅ Support local wildlife
✅ Adapted to our soil and weather
✅ Lower maintenance costs

Planning summer landscaping? We'd love to help you choose plants that love our climate as much as we do and bring new life to homes and businesses in our area.

Tampa residents can request rain sensors and other water-saving materials through the link below, while supplies last. Great resources on the site to DIY install. If you need help, our owner Brian is a Florida Water Star Accredited Professional and here to help!

DYK that Tampa receives an average of 50in of rain during the summer? 🌧️ Make sure that your automatic irrigation system includes a rain-sensing device that's on and working properly - it's required. Tampa Water customers can request a FREE rain sensor at https://bit.ly/421eOn1.

Sometimes feeling accomplished in small business looks like reconciled accounting, a request from a new customer, and marketing prints ordered.

But other times it means having a fun moment at the kitchen table drawing up examples for a free kids activity in the community.

🌿🎨🌼

Spring is in the air and we are feeling creative, inspired by the growth all around! While the main activity will be a plant propagating lesson, we decided last minute to add a mini art option this weekend at the Seminole Seminole Heights Elementary PTAestival. We are so excited to use nature as a model for discussions with kids & the young at heart on personal growth, resilience, and confidence.
