🌀 Invest 92L is one to watch. Is your property’s roof ready?

Invest 92L is being monitored in the Gulf and could bring weather impacts to parts of Florida later this week. Its track and strength remain uncertain, so keep an eye on updates from the National Hurricane Center and your local weather team.

For commercial and multifamily properties, now is a good time to address existing leaks, clear roof drains and gutters, and check areas where water tends to collect. Heavy rain can turn a small roofing issue into a costly disruption.

Aderhold Roofing & Construction can help with roof inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs to help prepare your property before the weather moves in.

For the first time since 1914, the Atlantic made it through September 21 without producing a hurricane.

That is encouraging, but it is not a reason to stop paying attention.

Hurricane season continues through November 30, and Florida properties do not need a named hurricane to experience roof damage. Heavy rain, wind-driven water, clogged drainage systems, loose flashing, damaged shingles, and open membrane seams can all lead to problems.

The storm tracks from the past decade are a reminder of how quickly a quiet season can change.

Use the calm period to inspect your roof, address existing vulnerabilities, and prepare before the next system appears on the map.

Aderhold Roofing provides commercial and multifamily roof inspections, repairs, maintenance, and replacement services throughout Florida.

Prepare now. Don’t wait for the next track.

Seven of the top 10 companies in Roofing Contractor’s 2026 rankings are backed by private equity.

Together, those seven companies reported approximately $5.75 billion in annual revenue. It is another clear sign of how quickly the roofing industry is consolidating.

Private equity can provide contractors with capital, technology and opportunities to expand. But it can also change who ultimately owns the company, where decisions are made and who the business answers to.

At Aderhold Roofing & Construction, we are proud to remain family-owned.

This is our community. We live here, we work here and we are raising our families here. The businesses, properties and communities we protect belong to our neighbors, our partners and the people we see every day.

Our decisions are made locally by people who work in the business and have their names and reputations connected to every project.

For our commercial and multifamily clients, that means direct accountability, long-term relationships and a team committed to being here when the next roof inspection, repair or replacement is needed.

The roofing industry may be changing, but our commitment remains the same.

Family-owned. Florida-focused. Here for the long haul.

A quiet hurricane season does not mean a dry one.

El Niño may be helping keep Atlantic hurricane activity lower this year. But for Florida, it can also mean a wetter and stormier winter.

And your roof does not need a hurricane to develop serious problems.

Weeks of repeated rainfall can expose weak seams, damaged flashing, clogged drains and aging repairs. Water that cannot drain properly may lead to ponding, saturated insulation, interior leaks, mold and added stress on the roof structure.

The rain we have already received should be a warning. More wet weather may be ahead.

Now is the time to inspect drainage areas, address existing leaks and find small problems before another round of rain makes them more expensive.

Aderhold Roofing provides detailed commercial roof inspections, documentation and practical repair recommendations.

Do not wait for a named storm to find out where your roof is vulnerable.

This is no longer just a warning about what could happen.

Our region has already seen two serious roof collapses this summer.

On July 25, a partial roof collapse at a Bradenton care facility forced 157 residents to be evacuated and relocated. The exact cause remains under investigation.

Then, on August 24, heavy rain triggered a partial roof collapse and severe interior flooding at a Burlington store in Port Richey. Customers and employees had to evacuate.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported in either incident.

And the rain has continued.

Through September 9, areas across the Nature Coast and Tampa Bay had already received roughly 3 to 4.5 inches of rain. Some local gauges recorded nearly 2 inches in a single day.

Here is what that means for a commercial roof:

One inch of water across a 10,000-square-foot roof weighs approximately 52,000 pounds.

Across a 25,000-square-foot roof, that same inch of water weighs nearly 130,000 pounds, or about 65 tons.

That is roughly the weight of a battle tank sitting on the roof.

Commercial roofs are designed to move water. But clogged drains, blocked scuppers, low areas and damaged drainage systems can allow it to collect quickly.

Check your roof after heavy rain.

Look for standing water, slow drainage, ceiling stains, sagging areas and water around rooftop equipment.

A roof inspection is much easier to manage than an evacuation, structural investigation and business closure.

One inch of water does not look like much.

But one inch of water across a 10-by-10-foot section of roof weighs about 520 pounds.

That is about the weight of an ATV sitting on your roof.

Spread that same inch of water across a 20-by-20-foot area, and it weighs more than 2,000 pounds.

Now you have the weight of a small car sitting overhead.

Recent roof failures in the Tampa area are a serious reminder that ponding water should not be ignored. Every roof failure has its own cause. But standing water can add stress and make existing roof problems worse.

It can:

• Find weak seams and openings
• Soak damaged insulation
• Add weight to weakened areas
• Keep building when drains or scuppers are blocked

After heavy rain, look for water that is not draining, overflowing scuppers, ceiling stains, active leaks, or visible sagging.

And do not climb onto the roof yourself. Have it checked safely.

If water is collecting on your roof, find out why before the next storm.
